    RIP Joel DiBartolo

I'm so sad to hear of Joel's passing, and so proud that he graced our community with his presence for such a long time. I can remember so many great young players who lived here for three or four years while they studied under Joel. Here's a link to the Flagstaff paper's obituary. Jazz leader...

Bass I bought on Ebay is missing a plate, now what?

Terrapin Guitars will make a custom one for about 12 bucks. I'm sure lots of other pick guard makers will too, I just happen to think John's work is great, so here's a link. Hens don't have teeth, they have gizzards. Invalid Link Removed

OK, this is probably a stupid alder/ash question...

I have no idea about the answer, but I really think you missed the boat with the title of the thread, which should have been "OK, this is probably a stupid ash question...or alder question"

    Kala Ubass Megathread, Part 1

I looked at that auction and was really surprised by the negative comments regarding Kala. I don't know anything about Oklahoma Vintage Guitar or the "great reputation" they claim to enjoy, but I bought my UBass from Easy Music Center in Honolulu, and have had occasion to communicate directly...

What Tele-PJ bass is this? (Tortoise Content)

When did Tele basses ever come with split coil pickups? I've only ever seen the single coils, from 68 to around 72, and then the humbuckers, from 72 on...

So i had no idea the bass i bought was active

I was perfectly happy to leave "low and behold" alone, but this... ...is such a common error on here, I feel compelled to point out, just this once, sorry for being so picky and pedantic, but it's rout, not route. A route is a course, or line of travel, e.g. "we decided on a route to take."...

    Hello and.... what bass?

Wait a minute...you mean you STARTED to play bass at 53? And this was without some long drawn out self-aggrandizing thread publicly agonizing about every minute detail and perceived slight during your month long shopping trip for your very first bass? Wow.

best way to ship a bass overseas

hmmm....I've never been charged an oversize fee for my flight case. I regularly fly United, US Airways, or Hawaiian. The only disadvantage I've found with my case is the hassle involved in hauling a 47 lb. "anvil" through the airport with me. The advantage is that I know my bass is protected...

How to get a used bass

There are plenty of people who post to this board, many being native speakers of English, who ought to apologize for the grammatical and semantic mayhem they commit on the language, but you sir are certainly not one of them. Good luck with your UK bass shopping!

A Flight Case For Two Electric Basses?

my bass in the anvil flight case weighs 47 lbs, only 3 lbs under the limit of 50. any case that will carry two basses will certainly incur over-weight charges.

Whose bass is more to them than a tool?

My father in law was a shipwright in the Pearl Harbor shipyard for over 50 years. We have a few of his oldest hand tools here in our home, just some files, rasps, and wrenches that he used throughout the course of his life as a quiet, decent, hard working, blue collar, lunch pail hero. I don't...

    camping bass?

i have a ubass, and love it, but my precision is louder unplugged than my ubass is. While that's loud enough for me to practice under some circumstances, the ubass should not be considered an acoustic bass, and you should expect to need an amp to play it.

    Ubassers come hither

I unwound both the g and d strings, pulled them tighter and re-strung them with little problem. the stretched and thus thinner strings didn't want to stay in the slot in the machine head, but with a little bit of persistence I got them back on and now they've all stabilized, tune up fine and...

Junkcaster III: The Legend Of El Guapo

As usual, man, that is just beautiful. I love the color, and that floor tile pickguard is classic. El Guapo sí se merece su apodo! y por cierto: Lo que tratas de decir no es cierto, güey, si esa frase es un buen ejemplo de la calidad de tu español!

    Bass Trainers and practice

I have an old Reed Kotler digital recorder (no longer available) and a Korg Pandora, I use them for much or most of my practicing, they're great for learning songs and picking out parts. I always remember a story I heard about how Duane Allman used to practice with a record turntable on the...

    PickGrips

Sorry, I understood this as a categorical statement regarding the relative "goodness" of non-pick using players vs. pick using players, not as advice regarding the enhanced marketability of a player who is proficient in more than one right hand technique. Jamerson's mastery of the bass without...

    Dear Santa....

I just spoke to Santa, he says that while you actually have been quite good this year (so far, anyway,) what with the current economic crisis and consequent budget cuts at the North Pole, the '69 Starfire is just out of the question. He wants to know if you already have an IPod.

Reed Kotler no longer makes the digital recorder that I have, but for fifty bucks you can still buy his software to install on either a pc or mac http://www.reedkotlermusic.com/transkriber.htm The Korg Pandora PX4D is what I use, it's available on amazon for about $125...

    Newbie, KALA UBASS/amp...etc...a little hep!

Kim, I think the Roland Cube is probably a good idea, they sound ok and are super light, plus the option for battery operation might be a plus. A headphone amp/digital recorder also might be a good idea. Most of my practicing is done with a Korg Pandora. My computer and my bass are both...
