Bought a like-new Peavey bass for $50 at a Pawn Shop Auction.

Correct way: Fill old screw hole with a glued-in hardwood dowel, and re-drill. Field-Expedient way: Break off a few toothpicks in the hole and run the new screw in there.

The rolled-on car paint technique involves thinning Rust-O-Leum until it is the consistency of milk, then rolling on in many thin layers. Once you've rolled 4-5 layers, letting it dry completely between layers, you wet-sand out the orange peel. Then do it all again 5 or 10 times.

+1 for the "paint 'em" solution. Basecoat/clearcoat for protection.
