Fender Precision MiA 79' vs MiJ 93'

For me, I'd say go the MIJ. Numerous people query their pickups, but IMO the build quality is comparable to anything I've tried. I love them! Good luck!

    Boss CE-5, CEb-3 or old CE-3?

I think the Boss CE-3 is one of the greatest and most underrated pedals from the Boss universe... Whilst it's chorus tones are probably NOT in the same realm of the CE-2, it's serviceable enough. For me, though, the real gem in this pedal is the vibrato! Super musical and very bass friendly - so...

    Flangers?

I got one of these, Boss HF-2, recently after chopping out my TC Vortex. I loved the Vortex but I'm terribly impressed by the Boss. So easy to use. Awesome sound IMO. I recommend this pedal most passionately. Good luck with your search!

  10. D'Addario EXL 170-5 5-String Set

Review by AlastairWatts on the item 'D'Addario EXL 170-5 5-String Set'

As a bassist I need a variety of different sounds and, having used them for 20+ years, I still feel excited when I pick up a bass strung with them. I've used the 4 string set for my passive J-Basses and can't say enough good thing about them- when I grabbed my first 5, I put on D'Addarios 5s...

    Mattisson basses?

No... but when I was looking at YouTube I went to MTD basses because of a bass used in a video- the logo is surprisingly similar to those of Michael Tobias Designs... turns out the bassist was using a Mattisson. Great sounding instrument if you dig the modern/active sound. Bassist's name was...

    earthquaker devices the warden compressor?

The Hummingbird IS entirely AWESOME! Goes from standard (though delicious!!!) tremolo sounds to absolutely obnoxious synth-esque tones... it's everything and more than it's supposed to be... IMO an absolute winner in the tremolo category...

Who's on your list of essential bassists to listen to?

Ha! Been going through the posts and wondering if there are/were musicians TB folks wouldn't advise people to listen to... I have someone on my not-so-hot-list that appears on a great many people's own lists... Thoughts? Or is that just a tiny bit mean? :p

Pedal Breeders' BIG Board Club Part II: Biggins'

Really? Thanks Feral Feline... It's actually pretty simple when in use. The next thing for me to suss out is how to do something for my double bass! Mmm... Not that she really needs it though! Tone in spades!

Pedal Breeders' BIG Board Club Part II: Biggins'

Ok, I'll try and thanks for the admission into my first TB club!!! Y A Y ! ! ! In an old Bass Player feature on Alderete, his then (early days of his tenure with the Mars Volta) board had LS-2s to take noisy pedals out of the chain (something about noise issues whilst turned off?) but when...

Is 'good' music objective or subjective?

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that good musicianship is objective... I won't name anyone but I'm sure we've all come across people who can (really) play but who don't exhibit excellent musicianship. What's good musicianship? The ability to execute music that is good... Musicianship for me...

    Idiotbox Mad Doctor Stutter

I should imagine that for full dub-step effectiveness you'd need to use the Expression pedal functionality... try it! Question about up octavers!

loving this thread… amongst some of the options i utilise, i split my signal straight from the bass- been using either a boss tu-2 or hao rust ride; i send the dry through one board (mostly different stages of gain), the other through some other stuff… delays, pitch shifters, reverbs and the...
