NBD Ibanez GSR190 - Much better than expected!

Simple, pure, and solid built! Ibanez's are some of the best "beginner" gear. I believe 200's have the "Bass Boom" knob, making it "active electronics" (still with passive pickups). 190's were pure passive and one less knob.

    Cover of a Cover Band

Not a serious endeavor, but I am/was in a duo we call "The Johnny Cash Cover Tribute Band", paying tribute to (a few of) the songs that Johnny Cash covered. We played a couple open mics with this format, and still occasionally do. They are now in our general repertoire, and sometimes gets played...

You said he is giving full refund - but you are not sending it back? If he is not asking for it back and giving full refund, I think he did it. And this doesn't look like just a "hacked repair" to me, it looks more like a "hacked mod". Correct me if I am wrong, but where's the tube in that tube...

    Deal/NoDeal (not the game show)

Im in favor of name-and-shame, but that probably is against the rules. You said he was listed as "commercial user" here on TB - I would report this to the mods to make them aware of their games. "Commercial user" implies he makes a full living on reneging on deals just like this. Maybe, you...

    Bass refinishing

Has anybody noted that the wood or least the veneer looks like spalted maple? Isn't that fungus? I believe I have read in these forums that dealing with that is nasty. (If not spalted, please ignore.)

Wiring EMG GZR PJ set to side output jack

Is there a balance control in the system, and if so, do the pickups go straight to that? If so, it probably takes both active and passive. Everything past that balance control needs to be valued for active. There is a real good chance you can just swap the pickups.
  12. IBJammin

    EMG PJX passive?

No, you cannot use those passively, no matter how you wire them. They need a battery.

So, I'm not sure I get EMG.

Guitar Fetish does have active pickups with dip switches that do exactly that. Not extreme tone shaping, but db boost, and what I guess is essentially a low/high boost (resulting in a mid scoop). REDactive EQ Switchable P Bass Active pickup black Case-RL1 is an example. It's been done, just not...

So, I'm not sure I get EMG.

As a lot of people have said, there is a very wide range of pickups with a wide range of tone from EMG. I believed the "harsh", "brittle", "sterile" reputation they had until I started experimenting myself. To my ears, HZs seem to live up to that reputation. DC, CS, P soap bars got progressively...

    Acoustic bass suggestions?

Ibanez AEBs are decent. Keep the stock bridge (or replace if the previous owner shaved it), use acoustic bass strings, and add the DAddario O-Port. Im heard over 2 guitars with no amp.

Newb question, calculating ohm load with two outputs

4 ohm minimum is for the whole load, both output jacks combined. Correct, two 4 ohm cabs would be 2 ohms combined. And, also correct, this would be bad for your amp.

    Playing 5-piece songs as a 4-piece

The only place it may sound thin is during guitar solo, when the guitar isn't playing the wall of sound chords. Is it possible the difference between Geezer and PHZ is one is poles and the other is a blade? EMG states both are alnico magnets, and the instructions do indeed have exact measurements. 2 Cabs 1 Head?

Adding a passive tone control to EMG circuit

Hartke fans - looking for commentary

Everything TransilvaniaE says. Even though the HA2000 was the entry level, it still has the true tube preamp channel. When they remade it into the HA2500, they dropped the tube, but still tried to have a "tube like" channel. Bi-amp wasn't on the lower end models, the HA5000 has that.

    Basses and bug bombs

That did cross my mind, but over 20 axes and I'm on crutches means that "trusted" person also needs to be generous enough to load them all up both ways! Without the DEET in the fogger, I am just going to cover up the case-less ones with trash bags.

    Basses and bug bombs

Yeah, you just reminded me that DEET is known to melt plastics and some synthetic fabrics. I guess some finishes have similar chemical compositions to plastic to be effected. I just checked the box, no DEET, it has pyrethin instead. Quick searches show that this does not have the same effect...
