Bassists you just can't watch

Pete Wentz. It's difficult to watch him do that strumming thing he does. It's funny because he can only do it on the E string, and it requires so much concentration, he looks down all the time. And he looks like an idiot doing. And then he jumps and spins and stands on his amp and whenever he does anything tons of twelve year old girls squeal like douchebags and make heart signs toward him with their hands. It's disgusting. FOB has so much fame and I could name at least twenty good bands who have much more skill at EVERYTHING who get a tenth of their recognition.

I couldn't agree more. He can't play for sh*t. FOB is the male band equivilent of a Brittany Spears. It's all about fooling people with marketing. The scary thing is that it works, and people actually buy it! ugh!

Michael Anthony during one of his patented "bass solos". The whole scampering across the stage with the flanger/reverb on "11" and then summoning his tech for a replacement bass is so nauseating that it's almost funny....but it's not. It's mind-numbing to watch and not the least bit entertaining. Unfortunately, this little episode happens night after night.

Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger.

I thought it was one of those overdubbed joke video at first, and it was kind of funny in that context; but when I realized it wasn't a joke it suddenly became rather sad. People actually pay to watch and hear this most annoying cacophony?

I looked him up after reading this...
Why does he play upside down like that?

This guy looks like if Robert Trujillo and Jeff Berlin had a baby.

So I just looked up an individual picture of Fieldy (Because the Korn videos are crap to look for anything but the singer. Anyway, it doesn't look uncomfortable, but it looks ridiculous. It looks really comfortable, actually. No bent wrists at all. Picture for reference:

Robert Trujillo just looks absolutely ridiculous. I don't really know what to say about it.

EDIT: On a side note, I thoroughly enjoy watching the bass player in this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DYbZNamJQ5g I'm also digging the vibe of the whole band. It's very classic rock, with the boots and the flared pants. I also like the tone of the bassist. Could be a better video without the the whole ink thing going on. Check out around 38 seconds for a good shot of the bass player. As well as 2:55, and 3:04 ish.

What an amazing thread. I've seen players and heard clips of bands in performances that I wouldn't have believed could ever get any kind of a gig anywhere, let alone actualy have an audience and then have someone video them and post it. Some of the internet truly is a vast wasteland.:rollno::rollno::rollno:

just watched the fallout boy video..... i think a little part of my soul just died if bass guitars had eye's and mouths mine would be crying and cringing right now

if you play in a metalband by all means rock out get your foot up on the monitor speaker leg it across the stage and stand on your drummers bass drum... hell you can even do the rock on sign with your fingers if you want
if you play in an emo pop band for christs sake stand still stop trying to mosh out and look like big badass metal gods, your playing teenage fairy music not megadeath you look stupid
and for god's sake dont raise your bass up like your about to break into a sheehan style solo when all your gonna do is bang on the E string
and stop spinning round all the time the waltz and the tango dances were cool in the 1950's were in 2008 now

eh i dunno kids these days i blame the parents

That is terrible.
