I've been through a few Sadowskys, all but one of them used, and now have three on hand, all variations on the 5-24 configuration. Other than weight, my Metro 5-24 (alder/morado) has been as good as any, and better than most. The B-string is incredible, and has seen off several NYC's, and the instrument rates high on playability and just has this songful character that is delightful for soloing and fills. I now also have another 5-24 that is an exotic - amboyna/mahogany body, brazilian rosewood board - that is demonstrably better in some ways but does not quite have that same songful quality...it cost me almost twice as much, and it certainly is not twice as good, although, to be fair, it has not yet had a good set-up.
Also, a shout-out for the one I bought new. 5-24, alder/morado, vintage white/tortise, with those phenomenal Nordstrand P/J pickups and a 1.75" nut. I'm using the Sadowsky flats, and getting a LOT of satisfaction and good comments from musicians and civilians. Killer in either passive or active modes. If a forest fire rages and I can grab only one on the way out the door, this one will be it. The only thing I would think about changing is exploring 70's placement for the J-pickup, and I'm not sure that would be an improvement but for my loving that burpy bridge-close sound.
And finally, a shout-out for Sadowsky in general. I've been through a lot of basses over the last 6 years, but really have settled in on the Sadowsky 5-24 configuration as the "right" axe for me. I've been selling off other axes, and am almost down to only these three. And I could make a case for keeping only two (and well might); with one 5-24 armed with soapbars and rounds (I use Cocco nickelrounds) and the P-J with flats, there isn't a whole lot that I can't do. And I could do that with the P-J and the Metro, especially as I'm uncomfortable traveling or doing certain gigs with either of the NYC axes, especially the Brazilian Rosewood board, as I occasionally am up in Canada with an axe. The only other axe that seems to satisfy me as much is the Pedulla MVP/Pentabuzz series, but I think the 5-24 ergonomics are better for me.
Well, maybe I'd still need a third, if fretless does indeed become my next frontier. Let's imagine a 5-24, soapbars or P/J, unlined ebony board, with nickelrounds...wow.
Interestingly, the top wood of these two instruments look very similar (and very nice!).

Mine's gonna be a standard with HCs, Madagascar rosewood FB, spalted top and black hardware. Vintage tint, as per Roger's suggestion.
I agree; Lakowsky > Sadland.

THIS is what the doctor ordered. Gonna miss my NYC PJ5 that currently resides with Mrs Bluesy Cat (and she wears it well I'm sure!), but my 08' Am Std P5's got me covered.
Much thanks to Bass San Diego for working a trade with me on this one. They told me this thing was light for an UV5, but this sucker is 8.5 lbs!!!!

haha.. I know .. That bass has gotten me more work that i can count... And it is broken in to perfection ! Like an old pair of jeans!
But I just wish i had gotten that matching headstock years ago.. Oh well.. Next time!
