Overall the balance and weight were really good. You could easily do 4hours sets with it without any major issues.
Some NGs are considerably heavier 😅

As will all Dingwalls, the playability was incredible.
The bridge was smooth and tuning was also hassle free.

Also, being able to hang the bass at a regular bass stand is a super neat feature.

Headless instruments are not for me but I'm always happy to see the dingwall innovations going on :)

The levers are nice, the hanger wings are nice, also I like that the "head" (the tip of the neck, really) seems to have the shape of the tip of a normal dingwall head, that's a nice touch IMHO.
Visually many concurrent products give me the impression that they just chopped the head off (let's call it the guillotine effect maybe ?) - this one doesn't have that and I like it.

Well, no one will ever complain about neck dive.

I think if you were traveling a lot, a headless may fit into a guitar sized case, which makes it easier for flying and stuffing into plane coat closets.

Aesthetics plays a role as well. They look both futuristic and retro at the same time.

I've only tried Dingwall strings, NYXL, and DR Pure blues on the black 5 string a the Pure Blues are my favorite there

I also have a green 4 - tried Dingwall strings and D'addario Chromes - the chromes won out! Haven't tried the IMA or new Pino strings, but I am curious

Also, agreed about the pickguard - way happier with the red popping on the black finish than the gold on black look

Looks like Dingwall finally got their act together and are now offering the Matte Pablo and Matte Coco Gold pickguards, in both four and five string variants, on thier website for US$54.00 each...!

In other news, I think between my two Zs and my Prima, I'm actually realllllllly set with Dingwalls.
I did pick up my 6 string AB today. I still enjoy that bass, but, it's just more obvious now how much I really appreciate what the Z does differently, and for me, better. So I think, if I ever were to get another Dingwall, it'd have to be a 6 string Z, wenge neck, with Neve pre. Not picky beyond that though, so I'll likely just occasionally check for a used one that'll tick all the boxes.
A Super and a DRoc would be fun to play with, but I don't think I'd like them enough to own. Hard to say though, just so thrilled with what I have and struggling to imagine another Dingwall changing things enough to really lust over it.

How do you like the 6 string AB with your 5rs? I've never played a 6 string, and probably shouldn't. I was a late bloomer to 5 string less than 20 years ago, but I sold every 4 string subsequently.

So, should I keep NOT trying a Dingwall 6 string, (and keep the 5 string harem full), or do you easily swap back and forth?

I pretty easily slip back and forth depending on what I need/want. In terms of percent, it'd like 80% 5 string, 20 % 6 string. I wouldn't say that playing a 6er will really make you suddenly urge for one, generally speaking. I wouldn't ever call playing the 6 an "upgrade" over the 5s, just a different instrument that allows me more options. It's nice to have, but, if I only had 5s, I'd be content with that, too.

Yes, they have been available for a couple of weeks, but "finally got their act together" is kind of harsh, don't you think? Dingwall is one of the most organized guitar makers out there.

Sheldon decided they were going to make pickguards available 4 months ago. SP1s are an absolute hit and dealers are waiting for the next batches. A new model comes with many QA challenges. I'm surprised there are spare pickguards already available. And at a very reasonable price.
For comparison, it took over 3 years for Warwick/Sadowsky to start offering spare Metroline pickguards.

I guess it makes sense, once I think about the whole supply chain dealio and how smaller bass manufacturers (compared to goliaths like Fender) might need more time to ramp up accessories (ie, pickguards) production...
