I've recently been enjoying Alejandra "Ale" Villarreal of The Warning. She's especially good when you realize that she's only 17 years old. Honestly, all three of the sisters in the band are great instrumentalists and vocalists, but the drummer, Paulina "Pau" (20 years old), is the most impressive.
Former local girl Molly Redfield. Haven’t thought of her for a few years till was viewing some college music YouTube videos.
Phenomenal player on both upright and electric. First saw her perform on upright at a Sac State College Stage band concert when I was there to see my son play too. She wasn’t amplified at all and I could still hear her quite well. When she played with a bow I thought she was going to saw the bass in half!

Quite the student too. On the verge of becoming an associate professor of music. Last and certainly not least, my favorite for carrying on the venerable tradition of Bass Face. Here’s her senior jazz bass recital from a few years ago. Listen to her solo at 19:12.

They're definitely amazing. Ale at 13 was better than I've ever been.
Absolutely. Ale is PHENOMINALLY good on bass, so accurate and consistent and her tone is excellent, and she is both understated yet critical (and loud!) to the band... and 3 years ago she went from like 4 feet tall to nearly 6 feet tall, and then in the last 2 years she went from super skinny and very young looking to looking like a statuesque vogue cover model, but cooler and WAY more talented than most of us. She was a real child prodigy on bass, although her "big" sisters were also prodigies, so I guess there's the band for ya.
She also happens to sing great.. just happens to not be a raunchy rock singer like her two older siblings... more into mellow and deeper introspective stuff, although she can sing raunchy rock if she wants to. Check out her singing live "the hunter" in winnipeg Manitoba (sp?) on youtube... her mic was too quiet, but then if they sound check for her sisters' levels then it would be too quiet for me also... but other than that it is rare and special when she sings lead.
But her playing is excellent... essentially flawless, and she brings stage presence to the bass that most of us had no clue was possible.
And she's just a weird dark sassy mexican teenage girl... LoL.... when not on stage.

Azu of LAZYgunsBRISKY and Cyntia.
Azu and her high school friends formed LAZYGunsBRISKY in 2006. When they went on hiatus in 2012 Azu hooked up with Cyntia initially as support bassist, then was promoted to full time member. Unfortunately Cyntia's career was cut short in 2016 when guitarist Yui developed focal distonia. By then LAZYGunsBRISKY had reformed, but at the moment they're on indefinite hiatus while singer Lucy deals with heart problems.
F. Chopper Koga of Gacharic Spin and Doll$Boxx.
Chopper formed Gacharic Spin in 2009 as "one last shot" at being a pro musician, as she'd become disillusioned after her time in the band The Pink Panda. It paid off. She was only willing to do it if her best friend Hana Sano was part of the band, who ironically at the time was herself working as a bassist and had little experience with drumming. Dolls$Boxx is a side project with the core members of Gacharic Spin and Fuki, vocalist for Unlucky Morpheus and the defunct band Lightbringer.
Haru of Bridear.
Bridear have been working since 2012, with Haru and vocalist Kimi being the core of the band. Despite both guitarists and their drummer leaving over the course of 18 months between 2017 and 2019 they've become increasingly successful, including touring Europe and having their last 2 albums released internationally on Setsuzoku Records.

exactly.... at 13 years old Ale was bassist for her band's first full album, at 14 years old, she was bassist for her ban'd second full album, and at 15 and 16 she was recording their latest full album, then she's been touring in support of it and making music videos for it over the past year and a half.
Crazy... and she was, let me check... 10 years old!?!?! .. when they performed that muse cover song at their school.... hysteria.... a really tough bass part... yea she was showing off at the expense of accuracy during the intro by playing with her left hand over the top of the neck LoL... but then she locked in and was awesome.
you can guess her age like a growth chart on her ampeg svt fridge that she's played through her whole life LoL
and when she got big enough to play a full size bass (!!) she became an official spector artist... I think she was like 13 or just turned 14? then at like age 15 I think she got big enough to handle a 5 string LoL... so bizarre.. to see that her bass limitations were only due to her physical stature because of her young age, not because of any lack of technical skill, talent, experience, or playing level.
this was her at age 15.... playing hysteria again... by that age a jaded rock star touring all over with her band and in process of recording their 3rd full album this video was reposted by muse themselves when they saw it...
The three of them are exceptional at what they do. Not just for their age, although that was the wow factor early on, they are just that freaking good and are starting to get the attention they deserve. I truly believe, however, Ale is the dark star in this trio. She is so freaking solid. I don't believe I've ever noticed her make a mistake. I've seen them live three times and they always crush it. Great band. Fun to watch them grow.

Last one for now. Played this song in every band I've ever been in. A little "Rock & Roll" (The Runaways with Jackie Fox).
Pay being the most impressive is saying a lot cause as you said they are all good. I can’t think of a power trio in recent years that are as solid.
