I recently bought one and hated the sound as well. This was surprising because these get a lot of love here. There was no warmth or fatness ro the low mids or mids. The high mids emphasized all the wrong things for me, sounded harsh.

I found that it had no lining inside and after reading a bunch about lining cabs, I decided to try it (I used a layer of high loft batting and a layer of egg carton mattress). The high mids improved a bit but that was it.

Just a question... did you try it with the tweeter turned all the way down? That really changes the character more than you might think.

I liked the cab size and weight so I wanted to make this work for me. I read that the Eminence bass lite s2012 speaker sounds good and fat and seemed to have a good record of working well in cabs that werent specifically designed for it. I put one into the GK 112 cab and it sounds very good! It's pretty transparent (my basses sound like I expect they should) and it responds warmly to EQ. It also felt about two pounds lighter than the already lightweight GK speaker.

Very interesting! I like mine stock, so even though I have a couple of these speakers (actually in a different cab, and you're right about them, IMHO), I won't be messing with mine.

oh I definitely tried it with the tweeter off. Both switched "off" by switching to the bi-amp mode (with no second amp attached) and by just turning the knob all the way down.

I actually preferred the tweeter dial at about 9:00 with the stock GK speaker, it seemed to relax some of the harshness. But I felt the the overall tone lacked fatness in the mids/low mids, the mid highs were harsh, and the overall tone was colored in a way I didn't like.


I haven't had the s2012 for long. I like it with the tweeter at 9 and completely off, though I generally like it off, more, for my own personal tone goals. Turning the tweeter on seems to scoop things a bit. With the tweeter off, its as close to what I wanted that I could hope for with semi-randomly dropping a speaker into a cab. But liking it both ways is great, because that means I will have an easier time with tone shaping to cop different sounds.

I recently purchased a GK Neo115III to use as a stand alone cab with my Markbass SA450 for smaller gigs. Very impressed and happy. It has a nice open sound and is very transparent, also very tight in the lows. This combination gets some of the best growl I have ever achieved with a jazz bass, and the crossover is seamless with none of that false brightness you can get with a tweeter.

Interesting. I thought the MBE cabs and MB combos didn't have any batting in them, but that the NEO cabs did. Hmmmm.

This is the cabinet I use when I am doubling on Upright and Electric. Its great for both. Really nice and balanced sounding with the DB.

I really liked the 15, but didn't purchase it as it had no casters ( which the store advertised as having ) and is a bit too heavy and bulky without, as I have a leg disability.
But, after hearing the epifani UL310 that was all I wanted

I just got one of these Neo112 II cabinets. What a great cabinet, especially for the price and weight. I may be painting the grill like you did though. Thanks for posting this.

Some pages back, someone posted about painting the Neo112 cab grills black.
So, I did.

Pull 'em, removed badges, scuff the grills up with a scotchbrite pad, wipe them down, hit them with krylon industrial enamel black, rest over night, re-install badges, reinstall grills.

Much better to my eye, and now they match everything else I have for when I feel like putting one under my Walkabout Scout, which actually sounds really good.

Didn't think I'd like 12's but I took a chance a couple years ago. Took me a minute to get used to the sound. I have 2 and I can get quite thunderous. Not the greatest sound for slap but I make it work. I'm normally a 10's guy (My other cab is a Genz Benz GB410T-XB). If I had to do it over though, I would have gotten 2 of the Neo210's

Our opinions differ on that, but, we're using different heads.
Man, with the MBFusion head, and a Sadowsky MV5, the slap tone is 100% sick, IMO....

Well, not that they sound bad, I just like the sounds of 10's while slapping. At least, to my ears, it's a lot more pleasing when I use my Genz Benz cab. I do agree that my amp probably makes a huge difference in the sound I desire and probably a GK amp paired with these cabs will give me a more pleasing sound.

other than buy another amp with 2 speaker outs is there a way to use another neo 112II with the MB200?

Or, at least, both of mine do.
