Very impressive setup!
Do you run this through an uncolored amp to maintain your carefully crafted tone? I have a Line 6 and like the samples but use it only for practice under the presumably mistaken impression that it doesn't so great through a cab...

FWIW - I use a chorus pedal on the upright too.

Oh, and full on Dino here. If I want some dirt, (which is pretty much never) I just hit the dirt channel on my Magellan amp.

I used to have 8-12 pedals when I was young, but noe it's just 4: Tuner/mute, compressor, phaseer and chorus.
I once swore I'd never use pedals, play more than 4 strings or solo. Of course a couple years later there was a trio gigging frequently in which I'm playing a 6-string, using a lot of pedals and taking solos. I've become a better bassist, musician, and bandmate for it.
It depends on the music and what the other musicians involved can or can't do. Most bassists using effects in a dense mix are wasting their time. You really can't tell out in the room if there's chorus or not, or sometimes even if there's fuzz. Just get a good tone that sits in the mix and play.
In duos or trios however, especially if playing freaky music, bass can be less of "just the bass" and more of a full-fledged instrument; offering sound textures and moods to great ...effect; things that if there were a guitarist, or a horn section, it'd probably best be left up to them but someone's gotta do it and to quote Bugs Bunny "Could be you, Doc!".
Effects can be an inspiration. Some riffs or parts aren't effective without them, or wouldn't have been written without them. If it's the bassist making those sounds, or who has the creativity to express ideas that way, who cares as long as it works for the music, performers and audience? If you'd prefer to plod along on a P bass playing strictly 12-bar blues, that's fine too.
Today some of project require me using up to 15 pedals, and being the musical and personal focal point. Most projects involve me using none. All for the greater good.

I have a tuner and eq pedal as well, but those arent really effects.

Well Frederick, on the subject of irony, it is ironic that someone starts a thread on a guaranteed divisive topic strictly to stir things up and then you take me to task for my comments. My only 'point' is sharing my opinion which you may accept or reject. If you don't like my posts, you are free to make use of the 'ignore' feature, as I have done when I find someone's posts offensive or not worth reading.
Then you are detecting something that's not there. We're disagreeing, I don't see that indicates an air of superiority in any way. No need to start trouble where none exists.
