yikes! generally I like to keep the beauty of the grain untouched but I do like that pg a lot on your bass

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on this. I just got a Lakland Skyline 55-02 w/ the Bartolini pups. (as some of you know)I'm super excited and in love with everything about this bass. There are many tone options so I wanted to get an idea of how you guys are using the pre-amp on this bass.

While I was at home noodling with the bass I found a great tone. All pups on with the highs slightly cut, mids flat and bass slightly boosted. This worked great at home but at rehearsal it didn't quite work. Got lost in the mix.
Style is alternative rock with dynamics and ...pretty stuff.
I play through a GK 800 RB set flat and two Eden 1x15's, one with a tweeter set half on.
Tried a bunch of stuff out and settled on just using the bridge p/u, no blend with both coils engaged, Highs cut, mids flat and bass slightly boosted. Sounded Stingray-like, which was cool cuz I used to play one in this band. I just feel like I could get a better sound and use more of the neck p/u.
Haven't messed with the mid controls or the pre-amp gain inside the bass. Thinking about upgrading to the new Lakland pre but don't think it's necessary, I got a great tone easily when I used an Ibanez SR-506 with Bart Mk-1's.(Don't bother to tell me to use the Ibby instead of the Lakland) Any suggestions?

just making sure if you realize this: it isn't the -02 models that are equipped with the MK1, it's the -01s. The MK1 set is made in Korea and, as Dan Lakin answered to my question, they don't really have any information about it, tonewise.
The -02s are set with a custom US made Bartolini set which consists of the 918-L pre (just like a usual NTMB 3EQ pre but tweaked to Lakland specs, hence the "L"; and, it also has internal mini switches to four mid frequencies), a 9W4 linear neck humbucking pickup, and a quadbucker which actually is two 9W4s in one housing. Each of the three 9W4s (1 neck 2 bridge) is well able to produce a very assertive singlecoil-like sound (but I'm sure you have learned that already)
So, tonewise there's no connection whatsoever between your Ibby and your Lakie. I used to have an Ibanez Sr905 with the same set of MK1s just like yours, it is waaaaay different
Personally, I couldn't say the LH3 is an upgrade from the Barts - it is just different. Currently I have an all-barts 55-94 and a bart pre/lakie pups 55-94. They both are great in their own right

Hey everyone. Anyone who has a Glaub and a strong set of mitts might be interested in this.

I recieved a set of LaBella Jamerson flats today (49-109, not for the faint of heart). Threw them on my Glaub, died, and then went to Motown heaven. When I'm not gigging with my top 40 rock cover band, my favorite thing to do is play along with Motown and Stax records. After trying the JO Flats, TI Jazz Flats, and the LaBella's, I feel the Labella's win hands down. Great balance from E-G, and with a little foam under the strings, finally get close to copping that Jamerson tone. I'm in no way saying that I can remotely play like Jamerson, as no one can, but am as close tonally as I've ever been.

Thanks for the recommendation, Joe! I do want to get a set of Jamersons someday and slap them on my DS'd Glaub, but it's good to know just how tasty that sounds.

I love the DJ neck and body... but, a DJ neck on a JO wouldn't appeal to me as much.

I do think so. I really like B&B but the JO is essentially a classic '62 JB (sorry for that much of banality)

Hmm...sounds like a new finnish lakland contactor to me but I think they would look for detuned p-basses mostly (so little finland produces so much metal music)

esp makes their shoreline series in japan. thats all i know about that. i certainly hope lakland never sells out.
