Paul Gray form Slipknot found dead

ya, it sucks. when you're about to be a father and that isn't a good enough reason to quit doing enough drugs to kill you, it really does suck. but not for him and not for the fans. it sucks for the wife and kid. especially the kid. well here's hoping that the kid will at least have half a shot at a normal life now that he won't be around to bring that influence in his/her life.

sheesh...what a pathetic way to go, eh?

It could have been worse. He could have NOT been a platinum selling/Grammy winning musician with millions of dollars. Say what you want about parenting, but not everyone from a non-traditional family turns out screwed up. My bet is, the kid will probably be fine. Now that I think of it though, what is "fine"?

My probelm with the whole addict/disease arguement is that it removes any responsibility from those who CHOSE to do drugs. If you CHOOSE to do drugs, then YOU are RESPONSIBLE for the concequences. The whole disease agrument is bull ****, because it leaves the user/addict powerless with no control and not responsible for thier actions.

Contrary to what you think you know, addiction is a disease and it doesn't absolve the user from responsibility.

Disease as defined by Merriam-Webster
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

2 : a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms : sickness, malady

Every substance abuse counseling center I know of, including the one I work for, places the blame on the addict because though it's a disease, the addict still makes a choice to do the drug. What the addict doesn't care about are the ramifications of doing the substance. But at no point in time do any counselors I know of let the addict off the hook by allowing them to say "it's not my fault."

yes, i am a miserable a-hole because i like to see kids grow up with semi-competent parents who love them.

we cant all be that lucky.

it builds character. good or bad. might fuel a kid to follow his late father, might push him in he opposite direction. i know that a good deal of my life choices are made learning from my parents'/family's mistakes.

my regards to the kid and the wife. not that its much consolation, but they can live financially comfortable with their grief. id rather be depressed and loaded than depressed and broke.

I just watched the interview as well, it was hard to watch. Seeing clown and joey tear up and bare their souls is crazy. Joey I thought was really hit hard. Just goes to show drummers and bass players have a connection. I feel so sorry for all involved on so many levels.

If it is what we are thinking happened, or anything else like a heart attack or faliure, I wish someone could have helped him. What a bummer. :(

heard about his death today at school. very sad.
never was my favorite band, but i had begun to learn some of their songs, current favorites are Before I Forget and Duality. also, about a month ago i finally got my hands on an ATK bass after a whole month of guitar center issues (long story). none the less, until i can convince my parents to let me get a-hold of his signature ibanez bass, ill be rocking the next closest thing. must say, he had a good choice of a bass

This is upsetting. I'm not a fan of the music, but my cousin is. When I told him about this, it devestated him. He has physicals of all their albums and he's currently got a little effigy-thing in his room. Prayers for the family.

Also; Tot hose of you who choose to comment on his addiction: Please, keep it respectful. The man just died. He deserves better than persecution and disapproval from us.

No his addiction was teenage girls.

Be respectful! Really the guy just died and your saying hes selfish because he was addicted to drugs and alcohol.? It's a struggle to get clean. It's really hard. Don't blame the man because addiction can do serious things. If this was even an overdose. Just show some damn respect buddy. Even if you don't like him leave your harsh words out of this because this is a hard time for some people. And calling the man selfish won't help.

On topic... R.I.P. Paul Grey. You were a fantastic bassist.

Real quick... I've had family members and friends who were "addicted" a few of them died from it. It's not a disease, it's a weakness and a selfish weakness at that. Who else is to blame for his weakness other than the person responsible for it. No bag of coke has ever forced itself to be chopped into lines. No heroin has ever cooked itself and injected itself into a junkies vein.
I guess it's just my perspective as someone who's seen what this can do to a family, but honestly, I don't see why we're supposed to respect him. If it was an OD, What he did was not honorable and shouldn't be respected. Realize that those who are calling him selfish are not doing so to anger anyone, but they're angry that a daughter will never have her father help her learn to tie her shoes or ride a bike, and it's because of something that was at his own hands. A set of parents dont have a son anymore, and a wife is now widowed. It's not because some wacked out crazy shot him. He wasn't stricken with cancer. He wasn't hit by a bus. This was a slow painful process that he put himself through.
In the end someone lost there life, and that is a sad thing, and that's all that really matters. I apologize if this post is to the ire of the mods, but everytime I hear people speaking about addiction as a disease I tend to blow up a bit. Hopefully this doesn't get me banned.

As to the hating; if you listen to music and hate drugs, then just throw all your records, CDs and tapes away. It's not just metal either, Jazz guys are big old feinds too. A lot of creative people are just messed up and that tends to lead them towards all sorts of highs.
