I'm saying I'm not sure what I'm looking at. You mean the string with us determined by the nut size? I have a 5 string, other than making the neck wider I'm not sure what you could do.

i cut a new nut with the slots spaced wider since, for me, they were too tightly spaced.

Right, the spacing of the strings -- how far apart the strings are from each other -- is determined by the spacing of the slots on the nut, and also the spacing of the bridge saddles.

So I would have to change nut and bridge? Good thing I have a 19mm P5.

If you want your strings spaced farther from each other, you could try just changing the nut first. The strings go wider apart as they near the bridge anyway. I believe johnk_10 just did the nut, as he described in his post.

yep, that's all that i did. just the nut.

So what the spacing now 19mm? How does it compare to a bass designed for 19mm?

the spacing at the nut is now 9mm between the strings at the nut.
at the bridge it's 19mm center to center.

My first Schecter in over a decade! Just picked up this stiletto elite 4 for just under 200, and boy is this a lot of bass for $200. Lots of scratches and dings, and the gold isn’t so gold anymore, but it set up really nicely. I think it’s a 2002 model, made in Korea. I was surprised to see the preamp was an EMG BTC, since all the schecter basses I’ve worked on in the last few years just had a generic off-the-shelf preamp. I had a stiletto custom in my teens, but I don’t remember it feeling nearly as solid as this elite. Really happy with my purchase!

Seeing that Gibson will sue at the drop of a hat, even an inversion was a bold move...
I entered the bass world unbiased due to lack of previous knowledge of brands, and I've always liked the Schecter Stiletto headstock better than the Gibson!
