Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Jagermeister was just a digestive herbal tonic that old Germans drank after a bellyful of wurst, but he saw a group of college aged guys daring each other to do shots of it and decided to import it and market it to bars. It got terrible reviews, so he hired a bunch of hot women to walk up to men in bars and ask them if they wanted a shot. He got Jagermeister to sponsor cool manly things like race cars to expand their visibility with the crowd he wanted (now it's metal/rock bands). He also invented the Jager cooler that bars would end up buying, because it was disgusting to drink warm and cooling it took the edge off a bit. He's the same guy behind Grey Goose vodka. Which was the idea that vodka is one of the cheapest liquors around and not a top shelf item, but what if they put it in a wine style bottle with a cork in it and just charged way more? People would think it was special and demand it. There's nothing special about the vodka (by his admission), it's pure marketing. He's made most of his money around finding ways to create demand for things that were cheap and no one wanted. The idea that if you make something extra expensive, it imbues it with status as a luxury item and creates a demand.

I wish I had even a vague idea. haha.
Where did that come from?

Hey, your bleeding.

I had one of these little tape measures come back on me the other day. I was measuring my bass case. Let go a little early. Whap! Decent little sting. Loaded up my bass in the car. Come back inside. Nice little trickle of blood. Are you kidding me? ***? The tape hit me on the thumb right where the fingernail and skin meet. How convenient. haha
More like waking up and being like "huh, I don't really remember getting all these scrapes and cuts and bruises on my hand, but I have a pretty good idea of how and when they got there."

Life changing riffs. On of the Best shows I've ever been to. Backline was all those Ampegs, a Matamp, and a lot of Dictator cabs/Heads. Sounded incredible. Chicago wasn't terrible. More tomorrow now it's time for some sleep.

Excellent. Also, the pillowcase is such a great merch idea.

Friend of mine went up to Chicago for Sleep last night. Here's a shot of Al. Looks like he's rocking one of the new Walnut 4003s.

He's pretty obsessed with Rickenbackers, lol. Not that I can blame him. I'd own more if I could get more, too.

Damn Texas makes a really ugly bass.
I think it's kinda cool looking. Wouldn't own a bass that said Texas on it, though, as I'm in no way Texan. It would be weird.

I want this free dog!
What an adorable pup.

The story of how Jager became a bar drink is one of the most disheartening (but appropriate) tales of modern marketing.
I was about to ask about that tale, and then...

Wow.

That's kinda depressing.

Jager makes me vomit. Every single time. Last time i drank it i was hanging out with my new co-workers for the first time. I politely declined several times, relented and took a drink, threw up into my hoodie half an hour later. Give me beer and bourbon instead and I'll be just fine.
