The Combo Club

Hey! @iagtrplyr ! Still leaning to the Katana?? Don’t think you would need more than the 50W, but if you can use the headroom..:headphone:!!

I am leaning hard into that Glenn Hughes Orange 50W bass combo. I was grousing about no XLR/or line out. But…..

It HAS something my Rumble 40 does not…an effects loop.

Problem not only solved elegantly, but in a way that just stokes the GAS. - just run your DI box of choice through the FX loop, run the XLR out and. Glenn’s your Uncle. Your Orange uncle. In Deep Purple.

Oh- and it’s a 12” ported speaker…that fills a niche- Rumble is 10” Rocket is 15…

Im preordering CME. They let me chip :headphone:away at the Squier VI (Hey! Back Off!!! It’s a Bass!!) on PayPal…

Next- Sell some gear to make room, and plan for that Höfner Club Bass in green burst. I need a short-scale ..!

Hey Tele, yep, I'm leaning towards the Katana Mk ii combo, but which one I'm not sure yet. For the price, the 50-watter makes the most sense and would be a great workhorse, definitely. I'm not planning on buying anything until maybe spring '22, but I love window shopping. Good luck with your Deep Purple Orange!

Hey guys. I’m a newly minted bass rookie. I got into guitar 10 years ago, purchased a Tanglewood, and got juuust good enough to play at church, then moved states whereupon I mostly looked at my guitar. My friend recently convinced me to give bass a shot, so I got myself a Squier Affinity PJ, and and Orange Crush Bass 25, and have realised I should have started with the bass in the first place!

I’m not nearly good enough to play in public yet, but I intend to play at church when I do.

My 25w Orange is perfect for home, and when I’m good enough to play at church I should probably just use their Line 6 combo, but the bigger Orange combos look so cool!

Anyway, is there any room in the club for a total rookie?

Luftkopf, my apologies for being so late in getting you "memberized." I saw this late last night and wanted to make sure you received a number before too long. Yes, we accept total rookies, intermediates, weekend warriors, and pros alike. As long as you enjoy your combo you're welcome here! To prove that, I'm awarding you member #267. It's yours and only yours, and it means you're now running with the finest club this side of a low E string. Please stop by often and don't hesitate to ask questions, ask for advice, or even ask what time it is. Yes, we can even accommodate you there too. Welcome aboard! :hyper:

Those Gator gig bags look pretty nice!

Those 12 US Spacebucks wind up being 20 in Australian. Yay for living in the arse-end of the world. Still. It's only $20. Let's see if the posties still remember how to get here.

Ya know, it's been a while since we've had an Aussie popping in. It'll be nice once again to get that unique humor from Down Under!

Yeah, Mike, seasons 1 & 2 are fully available now. I liked them pretty well and really enjoyed discussing them with my 16-year-old Star Wars fan grandson. They're shooting season 3 right now and will release one episode per week when done. I don't think it's a spoiler to say it's like the old cowboy westerns ... but, ... you know, ... with aliens, and laser guns, and stuff ...
.

The Mrs. and I have finished the third show last night. We like to call it, "Mandolorian Mondays." It's pretty good, i must admit. November 25th can't get here quickly enough for me though...

Yeah- for the six stringers, I have a Fender Mustang I V2. 20W into 8” speaker, and passable sims. Effects are nice, Amp models are (I think) 57 tweed, 59 Bassman, 63-64 Princeton, British, wait- here is screenshot from manual ;)

I would have to Google “British 60s” (Vox? Marshall)…anyhow- enough to play with, but does have USB out.

Here it is with my Tele.

It’s a generation or three behind what’s out there now! The “Fuse” software platform is no longer supported by Fender :(. I never needed it anyway- plenty of toys in the box to keep me happy!!

Katana seems best of what’s out here now; if the 100W is on the table- you should go for it! Imagine laying down a Tele track live with that mic’ed into your Focusrite. :headphone: !! Oh, and the obligatory block party/corn palace thing. Mmmm….corn….-

For wood shopping, consider a Vox AmPlug or two. The cute 2W “cab” lets you make a mini stack. (No! It is NOT a combo ) it sounds much better than it should-

And it’s adorable, different models of the AmPlug have different onboard effects: etc Real fun for on the go…I’m sure you probably already know all this…

Hang in there- Holidays around the corner!

Thank you very much sir!

I’ve doing a lot of reading, and I’ve already learned a lot from the collected wisdom (and collected arguments) around here. :D

You seem to have giant books next to the Vox and the Orange - are you a giant ?? :wacky:

They shrunk Mrs. Peel, too, for 45 minutes or so. There is also Fantastic Voyage. Good to remember the world of the Little People is not for humans.

Somewhat more human is a cheesecake shot

Clearly I need a bearskin rug for this sort of thing, especially with combos to the right of me combos to the left of me but no combos in this shot. What we have here is a ̶f̶a̶i̶l̶u̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶m̶u̶n̶i̶c̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶F̶r̶e̶n̶c̶h̶ StingRay freshly back from Santa's Workshop (again) because the neck wasn't shimmed properly. So, no charge :)

All the basses wear custom straps from Jeri Hart. :hyper:

Asked the Elves (I hold a passport and visa to there and back again) to let me do the setup. Because I like doing my own setup. One might reasonably guess with 42 years of ownership, I know how I like the 'Ray to be setup. AIS it wears GHS Brite Flats now — the same strings it shipped with new in 79.

But now I hear exactly what the 'Ray sounds like with the PJB combo. That Peavey TNT combo from ~81 has a voicing that
um
maybe I don't need to hear again :D

Especially the collected arguments, I'm sure! We can sometimes be a bunch of cranky old musicians, but there's a century's worth of interesting conversations, technical discussions, buyer's advice, and some good old-fashioned fun too. Enjoy!

How’s that Orange Crush 50?? I’ve been eyeing the purple one….dont think I need it, but…. It looks fun!
It's a neat little amp. I had planned on selling the Hartke when I ordered the Orange but decided to keep it. The easiest way to explain it is the Orange is a lot like a guitar combo. It has the dirt channel which sounds great (especially with my old Morley wah plugged in) if you just wanna rock out at the house but if I want to rattle my neighbors teeth I use the Hartke. That one is all bass amp. I just jam with a Beat Buddy so both amps serve me well.
