Seen the name, the face, and the squier bass. But, can't remember exactly which band. Isn't it some emo/angst man child band? Music like that is bound to draw venom, even if it's underserved.

What's all the hate for Pete Wentz?

I don't know if anyone could name the "best" bass player, but Sting is definitely a pro. Considering he wrote all those Police songs, not to mention played some great basslines (especially compared to pop music) while singing as well. If nothing else, having to deal with Stu Copeland's inability to commit to a decent tempo should earn respect for Sting lol.
as a person the guy is a real weenie though...I could go on forever regarding that. Love his music, wouldn't want to spend more than 15 min with the guy.

He/that band probably gets a lot of hate because of that awful "Centuries" song they crammed down our throats during the NCAA CFB Playoffs last year. At least Mark Hoppus makes fun of himself for being serviceable at best. Also, he actually writes music where I'm pretty sure the singer in Fall Out Boy writes all of their stuff. Obviously, this is all IMHO.

You certainly heard wrong about that one. Robert is one sick bass player - check out Infectious Grooves with Mike Muir - some good stuff
How about we all just appreciate that we are all members of the "Fraternity Of The Deep End" (as Phil Lesh called it), and not go about slagging on any of our bass playing brothers and sisters. Let's celebrate the bond we all share, famous or not, of being the ones who 'swing the show from down low' and just ditch all the scorecards, angst and one-upmanship.

I've been playing bass for around 40 years and I don't know who Will Lee is. Shame one me? I don't think so.
I'm not fan of Pete Wentz but more power to him. My daughter loves FOB. Dads aren't really supposed to get their daughters pop idol music. My dad certainly wasn't into my sister's Madonna or Poison albums, he didn't feel a need to belittle them.
I don't get the GD anger either. Yeah their lifestyle doesn't reflect their music but that's what happens when you go from being a punk kid with nothing to a rich man. Roger Waters lifestyle doesn't reflect his lyrics either, but we like his music so he's NOT a hypocrite and a poser. Seems really contradictory to me.

As someone who grew up listening to Fall Out Boy and the likes before branching out to "better" music, I can appreciate what the band brings to the table. Sure, it's radio-friendly pop rock that has little musical value, but it got me interested in playing music. Not just me, either. A lot of my friends went down the same path. So Fall Out Boy (and Pete Wentz) might bore the hell out of you, but they serve as a musical gateway drug of sorts. Anything that helps takes phones out of kids hands and replaces them with instruments is awesome by me.
He has a signature Squier P Bass. Black, red tort pickguard, maple neck and just a volume control
OP made me laugh with the Robert Trujillo line. He is kinda cheesy but not a bad bass player. Pete Wentz is not terrible but not anything special.

Agreed, citation needed - not a huge Metallica fan, but I'd like to think that in ten years of bass playing, I can recognize a good bass player. Even if I don't follow him.
To be honest I never really knew there was any hate for Pete Wentz. I actually like that he's really popular and is a bass player! Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Maybe other bass players envy him because he gets a lot of women all over him? I don't know...
Well I wouldn't goes as far as to say that but some of Floyd's best basslines were played and recorded by Roger. I was listening to the really early stuff like Piper at the gates of dawnand Saucer full of secrets and there are some good basslines on there.
I'm starting to suspect that the OP is either an inexperienced person that doesn't understand that they are starting $#!@ storms, or are trolls.
I would guess a lot of it is jealousy because he is in a successful band and they are not. Fallout Boy is not really my kind of music but I took my son to see them when he was 14. They put on a good show.
