    ABG - Intonatable Bridge Saddles?

I've looked all over for something like this for my Takamine. No luck. I couldn't even find a compensated bridge. I would be very interested if someone knows where to get one also.

Why are people naming their basses female names?

I named my MM 'Big Ern' after Bill Murray's character in Kingpin. It's also a reference to the brand name.

list of notable music schools for EB

I went to Humber. It was a really well rounded program. LOTS of practical work. You pretty much play in every class, so you get a chance to apply what you're working on immediately. The bass faculty is outstanding. The entire faculty is outstanding actually. Mike Downes Invalid Link...

    Most Embarrasing moments/problems/accidents on stage

Every now and then I do an acoustic gig with a couple of friends at a local bar. At the last show a Bachelorette party came in, which is usually a good sign that the crowd will be fun. During a set break I was at the bar to get a pint and one of the bridesmaids tapped me on the shoulder and...

Ever had someone knock on Your door and offer You a gig?

This wasn't a knock on a door, but . . . I was driving home from the ski hill one evening when I got a call from a guy who had seen my poster for music lessons. He's a keyboard player, but was taking vocal lessons at the studio next to mine. "You're a bass player right" "Yep" "You want a...

Equipment newbie here, can I get some advice?

Yorkville gear is great 'bang for buck', especially used. It's also bulletproof, literally, you can spray it with a semi-auto and the bullets just bounce right off. (don't try this at home)

Your first bass vs. what you play now

I started with my Highschool's 'Fresher' bass. The neck had nearly warped into a mobius strip. I went from that to borrowing my Uncle's Pre CBS Fender P. Pretty much went from the crappiest bass I have ever put my hands on to a beautiful example of a classic fender. The first bass I owned...

    Issues with my bass teacher

I teach reading, but I feel it's more important to develop the ear and feel first. I definitely have my students practice scales and work on theory, but a big part of what i teach revolves around understanding the sound of different scale degrees etc, then when the student starts to dig a...

    Bass through a guitar amp?

Well, as far as the amp goes, a TON of famous guitar amps are based on the original Fender Bassman circuit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand a Marshall JTM is just a Fender Bassman flipped upsitde down and the tone stack moved to a different location in the circuit.

In the 2nd pic it looks like the A and D end at the neck. It's impressive that you are able to get the strings to suspend themselves in thin air, but how do you play it?

The Truth About Being a "Good" Bass Player

One of the best guitar players I know can barely play a solo to save his life, but is untouchable on rhythm guitar. I think he was a bass player in a past life. P.S. He gets more gigs than any of the lead guitar player I know. It's good to know that there are a few players who can nail the...
