    What's the matter with me?

I keep buying guitars n basses if I find them ultra cheap, that may need some work. Dont need new guiitars, because they are new, and Im more a DIY guy, that likes to setup and repair gear. Sometimes only because I feel that if I wont buy the cheap stuff itd be destroyed and die in slow hard...

Too many basses but don't want to sell any

It's not a bad thing that I don't want to sell basses. It's a bad thing I don't want to sell basses, while I bought them only to be sold sooner. But seriously, I have only one "additional" bass now. I bought it as damaged, but after doing some work with neck bolts, adding new tuners, fitting...

    Which knobs on my bass??

Knobs are quite individual. Personally I love strat style knobs, but dont like the speed knobs. In this case I'd go with non-guitar knobs, but rather those: Invalid Link Removed In my country you can easily buy those in specialistic audio shop.

Thats the reason I started to make pickguards on my own when I have the old one as a template. It works well with monocromatic, because Im using plexi sheets.

Same bass...sometimes love it other times not so much

I own few basses now, every single one has different sounding. I havent ever been bored by any bass, even with my first one, that I left, because its a machine for metal (I mean design here), not for rythms I'm playing now

    Having cheap basses

Thanks. This is the bass itself [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] The bag was a freebie. Actually I dont have any videos that shows how does it play, but maybe in near future I'll make one. It was probably used in home only, because it was in perfect condition. I know this oldschool design...

    Having cheap basses

Most of my basses are from local manufacturer, from the real-socialism times. Every single one was cheap, mostly because people hates those basses from the times they wanted a Fender, but couldnt afford anything different. The cheapest I bought was approx 9$, and it belongs to my friend now. And...

Hand made Jazz Bass - your opinion, and maybe your own JB ...

Current look of the bass. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] I'm mostly satisfied with things done. I decided to stay natural. I only screwed up with electronics - I'm more a carpenter than electronic. Anyway I have a friend that will take a look soon. The pickups so far are in quite nice...

The Church of Dan Atkinson / The Wood Doesn't Matter Club

What I'm seeing now in this thread isn't going anywhere. If there are any people that actually can recognise if a guitar was made from mahogany chopped out 13th september 1979, and the other one 1st june 1980, they arent in majority now. Dan proved that most people cannot recognise material...

The Church of Dan Atkinson / The Wood Doesn't Matter Club

May I have a number ? This thread is PERFECT FOR ME ! Most of my guitars n basses has necks from beech (or beech with mahogany), some has beech bodies too. Every single one says "its unluthier wood", while it plays perfectly. PS. Dan, you're my man !

Does anyone make a 5 string BEATLE bass?

I was interested more in this case. I went to local guitar shop, and asked for a 5 string Beatle bass, but the seller threw me away, and closed the shop immidately. An old hobo sunbathing nearby took my hand, and hold me to his lockup. His small room in very old building was full of the most...

    1st Time Bass Build

That looks very good ! How much the neck costs ? Here in Poland those parts are quite expensive - cheapest one costs about 130 bucks (and is of course made in china). Now I can buy two used ones for occasional price (first one for approx 30, with tuners, frets etc. and headstock shaped more...

How Do You Feel About This Ric Copy? MIJ Content...

Dont be afraid at any way. I'd love to have anything that looks like Rickenbacker, but its almost impossible in my country, if you dont have money. I'm not that poor, but right now I'm up to save for my own flat, rather than buying expensive bass. I could spend maximum amount of 100$ (with...

    Some Pros use cheap basses

I own a hand made short scale bass from 1960's, and this was so far my cheapest bass. Equality of 30 bucks. Still needs some refinish, but an argument that cheap bass must be a bad bass is just nonsense. Sure, some pros uses cheap basses, just like Brian May still plays his homemade Red...

    Stickers on instruments

I had some guitars made in Poland that you wont buy new ever, and were covered with ridiculous stickers. To me thats gross, because you dont see them often, and are pretty unique. To me adding a stickers has a point tomake your bass unique - why to make it unique when its unique already ? If you...

you use the same bass for all the songs?

Even tough I play punk rock, some songs just need more metallic sounding, and some more casual. Thats why when my shows will start Im gonna bring with me at least two basses, and maybe one backup bass. I cant imagine playing everything with one bass. This is just impossible to me. Even if its...

Visit to Mayones Guitars and Basses, Gdansk, Poland

Maybe I superlatived this, I'm sorry. But in fact during the 1960's in Poland a small DIY oriented newspaper "Young Technician" actually made several articles how to make an electric guitar. And because I live here, and I see whats been going on, I came across many strange DIY pieces. Many pics...

Visit to Mayones Guitars and Basses, Gdansk, Poland

The thing I DONT like about Mayo is the same stereotype. In the 80's it wasnt a big problem to get an electric guitar or bass. Except minor luthiers there was a national factory, that produced guitars, and if you had good amount of money you could order a custom one. Except that you could go for...

Why is P-Bass still the best?

To me Pbass dont have to be the best. Its just most popular in the bass world. Thats it. Just like McDonalds - many rich guys that eatat exclusive restaurants wouldnt eat here, when some people just love it for whatever reasons - just like with Pbass In my country most bass players wanted a...

Do you think aesthetics are important?

Personally I cant stand the look of modern basses - I cant even tell the shape of it ! As a long life fan of classic design I'd just get rid of it, or take the hardware and put it in another nice lookin bass.
