    Feedback reply by sjhs

Great deal and easy to communicate with... even kept in touch with updates when life threw him a curveball that would have made it easy to understand that he had other more important things to deal with. It's always a little nerve wracking to buy gear from another country, but Matt made the...

    ***Club Verellen*** - Part Deux

Just spent my Saturday driving to pick this up and bring it home... well worth the hours of travel :)

    You're Fired.

I got fired from a band made up of some of my best friends... Just got an email which read like a stock letter from a "so, you want to manage a band" type website which said that I obviously wasn't interested anymore, and that if I wanted a full explanation then I could reply to the email. Long...

NBD Blue Sandblasted Precision... Now with mods

Turns out I'm more suggestible than I thought ;) Seems to tone down the maple neck a bit so it doesn't look so bright...

That's what I was thinking... Perhaps everyone can get a name tag with their instrument instead of a name ;)

Pics of you playing your bass - Part 3

An old photo now, and that band's dead... but now writing songs for a new band with the same guitarist and drummer Staring into the distance, being all metal and stuff ;)

    The official Ibanez Blazer/Roadstar Club

Thanks... I'm really happy with how it came out, for a first attempt at restoring brass. Now I just need to figure out how to protect it so it doesn't become tarnished again in a month or two.

    The official Ibanez Blazer/Roadstar Club

Here's mine... Recently acquired 1981 Blazer, in need of some TLC... I've tidied the bridge, but want a new pickguard (a previous owner scratched letters in near the knobs), new frets as they're badly worn and the electronics tidied up.

    Cringeworthy Band Photos

When I saw the title of this thread I thought I'd be in with a chance to post some old band photos of mine... but, no, I have to admit defeat. There's no way I can compete with these gems :)

    Covers that are pretty awesome.

It's already been mentioned multiple times, but I'd feel like I was leaving something out if I didn't mention Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt... Calling it a cover seems to undervalue it, Cash so totally owns the song that it's now his and Trent Reznor should now be claiming he's covering Johnny...

    Ibanez Blazer Bass Pickguard

Did you find one in the end? I've decided to necro-bump your thread as I found it while looking for info on a new pickguard for my 1981 Blazer, so figure someone else might find it looking for the same... Here's a tracing of my pickguard - for scale, the lined paper it's traced on to is A3...

A total amateur's adventures in learning some restoration skills with a 1981 Ibanez Blazer

I recently bought a 1981 Ibanez Blazer that is in need of some TLC, so I've decided that I'm going to teach myself some restoration skills while bringing it back to life. The obvious issues I noticed immediately were a badly corroded brass bridge, the maple fretboard has worn through in a few...

Road Worn, I just don't get it.

I recently paid for the finish to be removed from the neck of one of my basses... I probably could have played it for years to see if it would wear off by itself, but I got the feel I wanted from it in a few days by taking it to a luthier instead.

Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Just got back from first band practice with my 'new' head... turns out there's been an escalation in the sonic arms race between bass and guitar as one of our guitarists is now running two half stacks instead of just the one, after playing through our first song our drummer complained that he...

NBD!!! (Not as cool as the 11 string).

Looking good! I've been thinking about getting a second 5 string, which I can tune down a bit for metal, and at first I was only thinking Spector... but lately I've been seeing some pretty sweet looking Soundgears and I think I'm chaning my tune a bit :)

NBD Blue Sandblasted Precision... Now with mods

It's a pretty bright maple look, that's for sure... As a massive Steve Harris fan I would have been ok with a vintage tint on the neck, but I don't might it how it is. I agere a rosewood board would look good, but all my other basses have dark wood fingerboards so changing it up a bit is good.

NBD Blue Sandblasted Precision... Now with mods

That's exactly my issue... I often palm mute, and have drawn blood on one of my basses where the G string saddle is so low for my action that the screws become graters :-/ I love that the Babicz feels the same regardless of the action.

NBD Blue Sandblasted Precision... Now with mods

I have DR strings on my other basses... I very nearly continued the trend and opted for some black beauties, but thought I'd give the Kalium balanced tension idea a go. I agree black strings would suit the look... If I could get custom gauged sets of black strings without having to order from...

NBD Blue Sandblasted Precision... Now with mods

Thanks for the tip! It's the first time I've drastically changed the gauge/tuning on a bass and was just working on the theory that bigger string tuned the same = feels tighter. The B on my five string in the background of that pic is a 130 and feels much tighter than the 130 on the P, if I can...

NBD Blue Sandblasted Precision... Now with mods

Not strictly new, but now in the state that I intended when I bought it recently... Here's a close shot of the body/grain in some decent light when I first bought it. And now, modded and setup... EMG Geezer P, Hipshot HB-7 tuners, Babicz bridge, more black bits and pieces (knobs, jack nut...

Any particularly good USB jog/shuttle wheel controllers out there?

While I'm not looking to use this much for recording, I figure the recording gear experts here are likely to be the best source of info so hopefully someone has some suggestions! Pre show noodling by band mates

If he's dead set on noodling away while people aren't really paying attention, tell him to get a solo gig in a hotel bar or something ;) I tend to play as many notes before a set as I have strings on my bass... then I mute with my tuner and the bass is on a stand at the side of the stage until...

Installed Hipshot HB7 tuners on sandblasted Am Special P, ferrules too small?

Just thought I should confirm 96tbird's amazing service call... The guy from Hipshot said he'd send them the Monday after I contacted him, and a week after that they arrived. Pretty good service, even if you don't factor in that there was no charge for the bushings or postage for the nearly 9000...

    The "F" word...

"At least once a gig," at a bar, seems pretty tame to me. I don't swear much at all, but have no problem with someone swearing while performing. However, my opinion hardly matters in this situation... if it bugs you, perhaps talk to the singer about it? I'll just leave this here...

Darkglass Microtubes 900 Class D Amp

Installed Hipshot HB7 tuners on sandblasted Am Special P, ferrules too small?

After a week and no response from the web site enquiry I figured I'd probably typed my email address into the form wrong, so I emailed them at their info email address and had a response when I got up the next morning asking for a postal address to send bushings that would fit my bass to :)

Suggestions for a solo bass piece for a beginner to learn in two months for school?

Hi All... I'm hoping you can help my daughter out, as I'm not coming up with a lot of helpful suggestions ;) She's 14 and has recently started playing bass... to give you an idea of her level: a couple months ago she couldn't really play anything, then we got rocksmith for the playstation and...

Installed Hipshot HB7 tuners on sandblasted Am Special P, ferrules too small?

I haven't heard back from them yet... Hopefully they get back to me today. The existing ferrules with the tape to expand them haven't moved any, so it's not super urgent, but still pretty keen to get some of the correct dimenstions if at all possible.

Installed Hipshot HB7 tuners on sandblasted Am Special P, ferrules too small?

Thanks for your post 96tbird... Installed Hipshot HB7 tuners on sandblasted Am Special P, ferrules too small?

Hi All I recently acquired one of the limited edition sandblasted P basses and wanted to swap out the original hardware for black hardware. After doing some research it seemed that the Hipshot HB7 tuners should be a drop in replacement. The backplates of the tuners are perfect, and screws right...

My McDonald's manager said bass is lame.

For what it's worth, a science teacher at high school once wrote in my report "If Simon doesn't buck his ideas up he's going to seriously limit his future employment opportunities"... I still don't know what a science teacher was doing trying to pretend they're an expert in the field of...

Tone is all in the fingers

My tone is all in my fingers... but, unfortunately, the tone has to pass through the string, pickups, tone controls, pedals, a head and then a speaker cabinet before I get to hear it... so I try to pay attention to all of them.

the thread that should not be

I think Lemmy is definitely more well known, but if we're going to get in to a semantic debate about what we mean by revered then it's going to get murky. I knew who Lemmy was when I didn't know Steve Harris' name... but if you'd played me an isolated bass track of the first five notes of The...
