    Thoughts and opinions please

A Squier CV60 P bass was my first, still play it regularly. I concur that you should try different basses and amps to find what sounds and feels best to you. It’s a fun process as well. Search “Bass Buzz” for another great beginning bass YouTube channel.

A prior Indo CV hater asks: “Are the Indo CV’s better now than they were in 2019/2020?”

My 2020 CV60 P. Replaced pots, jack, wiring, and bridge just for fun, but it was fine stock. Gets that classic P bass sound, it’s my first choice for playing out.

Over 20 Years on TalkBass – How About You? 🎸

I joined 4 years ago, so I’m a bass toddler. I’ve learned a lot here-strings, setups, technique, band management, to name a few things. I play guitar as well and visit the other forums, but mostly hang out here. TB is one of the better moderated forums, imo.

Who inspired you to play bass?

My younger brother. He’s played guitar and bass since we were teenagers, he motivated me to start after I retired. Guitar first, bass came shortly after. Thanks, Mark!

Why is the Boss tuner among the top tuners?

I have a TU3 and a TC Polytune 3. I gig more on bass, so I prefer the Polytune on my bass board as the display is easier to see and it picks up the E string faster. The Boss pedal is on my guitar board until it dies, which is probably never.

TC Electronic Spark Booster. Underrated champion of low-gain overdrives

I bought a Spark for my guitar board, but it wound up on my bass board. It sounds less fizzy than the BDDI drive or the amp drive on my Rumble.

    Flats on a jazz?

Pretty close to round wound. The EBs replaced 50-100 D’Addario rounds. The EBs are brighter than the Chromes on my P bass.

How Did You Start Out Gigging

I chose B. Way late bloomer (boomer?) here, I didn’t start playing music until after I retired 8 years ago. First guitar, then bass. My guitar teacher started an ensemble to get his students playing out, I did some recitals on guitar and bass. A local folk duo saw me at a recital and asked if...

    What's your gig rig philosophy?

We're a folk/country band playing smaller locations. The guitarist brings the mixer/PA/ monitor. My rig is: Jazz bass>BDDI> mixer. I have a comp pedal in front of the DI and run xlr to mixer and parallel out to my Rumble 100 as a monitor. Gets plenty loud and pretty simple to manage.
