Did Thurs/Sunday at Dicks per usual. Really REALLY happy with how forward in the mix Mike was, had a LOT of definition coming out of his Serek. Actually got in early enough to get a poster this year! Was really surprised at how light the crowd was on Thursday.

It's a combination of things for me. I run an Ampeg SGT-DI as my preamp into a QSC GX5 power amp. With the SGT I engage my first stage of "dirt" by just turning on the SGT channel (I pretty much leave it on, but I can go "clean" by leaving it off if desired). From there I use two EQD Blumes...

I've really been enjoying the combination of the SGT and the EQD Blumes, especially the Blumes' transparent boost mode. It feels like it gives me a 3rd channel on the SGT: Preamp, SGT, and SGT'er 😂

I hate that I missed the boat on these things when they could be had for ~$500 or so in the past 10 years.

Great suggestion on settings. It's absolutely bonkers how much headroom there is on Mode 2. I've found that when I go from Mode 2 to 3, I bump the Level to about 9-10 o'clock to achieve unity.

As with any drive/distortion pedal, the upper harmonics are prominent, but I definitely don't feel like I lose any low-end with it.

I love the SGT-DI, but I'm also a huge Ampeg fanboy. We have an Aguilar Tonehammer 500 on stage with a 210 cab, but I bypass the preamp on it in favor of the SGT. Not that I dislike the Aguilar tone, but I like the SGT better, and so does our worship pastor.

The EHX Microsynth is just octave, distortion, and filter circuits crammed into a single housing. It's fairly easy to recreate, just takes a lot of patience in the tinkering.

Agreed, of all the pre-loaded ones, that 2x12 in the user bank is the best one, but I've yet to find a situation where I felt like I NEEDED it over just having cabsim turned off. I think a lot of people prematurely wrote off the SGT due to not liking the cabsim. Not sure why they didn't just...

I've had similar experiences, but haven't tried backing off on the tone of any of my basses... I'll have to give that a shot! Are you using the cabsim at all? I personally think it sounds so much better with the cabsim off.
