Finish question: Thick Poly vs Others

This is only tangentially related to Luthiers, so I apologize if this should be in a different sub. Something that’s been on my mind today: Most inexpensive instruments have thick polyester finishes. The least expensive seem to more commonly have a thin matte poly on the neck, but plenty of the...

I bought the most expensive Harley Benton bass (BZ-6000 II NT)

I played a 6 string in my local guitar shop and got a sudden, burning need to have one... but not that one. It was a piece of crap. After a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that Harley Benton has, hands down, the best spec to price ratio, even when you include shipping. Neck-through was...

    Good Inexpensive Strap Recommendations?

See title. I am guilty of using those really basic, cheap Ernie Ball straps for years. I guess I like the width and they've mostly been good (one time I broke the plastic part of one of those straps and I'm not sure how I did it) and reliable. I also like that they come in a variety of colors...

Intentional irony: A good bassist on an inexpensive bass

I have a friend who is a REALLY good player. He gets a lot of calls for gigs. Even though he owns multiple high-dollar basses, he typically shows up to his gigs with his Squier Jazz Bass. If he gets some looks, it doesn’t take long for him to change people’s minds because he’s a solid player and...

Compressors with band or eq adjustable

So I've been looking to get the DigiTech bass squeeze with the dual band compression, I was just curious if anyone has or knows about any brand of pedal similar to this kind. Cheap “throw away” string suggestions.

While looking on eBay at some Glarry Basses (briefly entertaining the idea of getting g an office bass), I noticed several listing for really cheap strings from Glarry and almost and the like. Best inexpensive combo or head+cab

Hello everyone! In a previous thread, I asked about the best cabinet to use for home practice. I've been thinking about it, and moving the amp head back and forth, disconnecting cables routinely would not render the whole solution inefficient, cumbersome and tiresome. So I'm leaning towards...

    Inexpensive amp recommendations

Hopefully I'm not quite recycling the classic "best amp under $xxx" thread here, but I'm currently without a bass amp and am in the market for one. NGBD - New Glarry Bass Day!

Well, it's been a week today that I received my Glarry Burlywood Precision Bass and I have to say that I am a believer. I am simply amazed. Not a sharp fret on this baby. No flaws on the finish and the back of the neck is satin finish like I prefer them to be. The neck is straight as an arrow...

Lightweight and inexpensive bass speaker cabinets.

I'm tired of carrying over 100 pounds of speaker cabinets! So far I have found three lightweight cabs for $300 or less. The Bugera BT210TS, the Fender Rumble 115, and the Trace Elliot Elf 1X10. All of these cabs weigh under 40 pounds. I'm interested in any feedback on this subject. Thank you.

    NBD - Inexpensive 5-string

I wanted to get back to playing 5-string again but didn't want to spend much, so I turned to Ibanez. It's a GSR205SM. The main things I like are the thinish neck, nice string spacing for me, the light weight, and playability. It sounds good when you just consider it a passive bass. I don't...
