Ryder, I've been meaning to give you a call. I wanted you to come down and jam on drums, but then my old HS buddy emerged saying he wanted to play. Turns out he's awful, and we're still looking. :/

John (guitar) gonna be out of town on vacation this weekend, so we could try after that if you're still down to come down and jam out. We've acquired a few good cymbals, too.

Sup man. No problem. That sounds good. I figured you were pretty busy man. I hear you about the hit and miss of trying people out. My schedule has opened up a bit as well. Give me a call sometime to try to set something up. Looks like that weekend is pretty open so far. I could also probably find some time during the week that could work. Just not sure when you guys play.

As far as gear goes, I could open up my own drum shop. Having a set there helps especially if weather is crappy, as I drive a truck. I have a couple snares and cymbals to choose from if we play. Whatever works is cool with me.

I can start to listen to your songs in your sig for now to get a handle on what you have so far. I figure that is a good starting point.

And whatever is cool with me. If you happen to find someone else that works better for you guys, no problem. I dig the stuff you have on soundcloud and would look forward to making some noise.

Image is only a key issue if you care about it. I don't bring it up that much in this thread, because it's not that big a deal and I don't care that much about genre names in general, but I hate the "stoner" label. I don't smoke pot, I don't write lyrics about smoking pot. The things I like about these kinds of music have nothing to do with that. On the other hand, I don't care at all if bands I like do. The irony is that when I was in punk bands I had long hair, didn't trim my beard, wore flannels and smoked a lot of pot (never wrote any lyrics about it though)...and I used to get sh*t about it constantly. I actually got told once "dude, would you please shave? Beards aren't punk". I don't care either way. If a band has long hair and beards and vintage gear or plays modern gear and wears shorts and flip flops on stage and have short hair and a goatee...and play a blue Ric and be really tall...that's fine by me, as long as they rock.

If there's one thing that isn't punk, it's giving a **** what other people think of your look.

Word. I have always thought that it is pretty cool in general. I mean, it makes it easy to talk about music and gear in a way that would not have been possible twenty years ago. If you wanted a gear review, it was a magazine or company propaganda, and that was it besides buying the effer. Here people can buy, sell, trade, listen, review, and discuss the finer points of the things we dig.

If there's one thing that isn't punk, it's giving a **** what other people think of your look.

I never got too into punk, but I like things here and there. But one thing that I thought was cool about that type of music is the willingness to do whatever they wanted without a lot of preconceived notions on what they were supposed to be doing.

You`re using some gnarly gear too, a Matamp and that black Gibson Ripper. I`d love to own a Ripper or any vintage Gibson.

As for the look/clothes debate, I don't force myself to wear specific clothes for gigs but yeah, I'm a bearded, jeans and flanel lover so I guess I fit a bit in the stereotype

I hear you. I nearly got my ass kicked once at a punk festival for "looking like Ken" (Barbie's boyfriend). the lack of dreads/spikes and dirt on my clothes was too much for this guy to handle.

my band plays crust/d-beat and we sometimes get comments about not looking like "crusties" or that we are too "straight". whatever..

It's not for everybody, but the Godflesh EP, or Streetcleaner are really good, IMO.

Some cool songs are, Dream Long Dead, Pulp, Head Dirt, Slavestate.

I wish that that day it would of been in slightly better shape. The fret board was popping off. Now I would of took the time to fix it. That pic is about 4-5 years old now. That bass sounded like a church bell. Should of bought it just to get the pickup

Trying to pick favorite pedals and sell off the extras is hard to do. El Oso or Modded ODB-3, Pickle Pie or Russian Green Clone, Pork Loin or Green Rhino. You start getting down to subtle differences or one has better lows, but one has better low mids. I don't want a pedal board that looks like Terry Bozzios drumset lol, but hard to choose and let go. Plus I dump some pedals and I might be able to pick up one of those older Epiphone Les Paul Standard basses or that Epiphone Thunderbird Classic-IV Pro. Also I really need to stop being lazy and fix the high fret on my Waterstone Lord Kitchener MB that things sounds great but I got a terrible buzz out on around the 7th fret.

Wow, that would be a total Prick's Trick there, lol. My buddy who can't play too well but loves music, got on a binge of collecting instruments because he saw me buying and selling to get just the right stuff, tone hunting and what not, and he got wrapped up in it, but he made it like a competition with me, trying to beat each other to the killer finds on craigslist, MGR, GC, and ebay. Well there was this older MIJ Ibanez SC Classic sort of PRSmith style guitar on ebay, and I made the mistake of letting him know about that model and the listing. So I watched it and went back and forth and let the auction slide, then I thought about it, why not send the guy and email through ebay and make him a lower offer, and the guy took it. So a couple days late my buddy and I are gmailing and I say I got that Ibanez SC off of ebay, he said how I was watching that and was going to buy that but the auction ended how could you bid on it. I said I just wrote him and got it shipped for 150. My buddy about flipped, you MF Joe, I was going to see what he relisted it a this week and buy it just so I had something at my place you would be jealous of. Ha Ha I Pre-Lazzed the Lazzer!!!

And yeah, I bounce between the P and Ric copy all the time. Been enjoying the P alot lately, but then I plug in the Ric and I wonder why I even bother with the P haha

I'm the exact opposite. I convinced myself that I could like how my Ric sounded while my P-bass was at our practice space for a few months. But as soon as I had them side by side, there was no contest which I liked better. Which was also the final nail in the coffin as to whether to get rid of my Ric or not.
