Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 28: Chicken Pot Pie

Wow. Did anyone know this existed. Founder of Sunn makes a pre...? GAS ATTACK!

http://www.conradamps.com/www.conradamps.com/C4_Tube_Bass_Preamp.html

***not $700 cool, but still cool.

Yes. I actually spoke to Conrad on the phone for a few minutes. When I went to order it he never returned my emails or calls. It was going to be my forever preamp.

The silver solder is a little hokey but I had faith it would sound excellent.

It's a Sunn tube pre which makes it close to a Marshall Super Bass pre.

Edit: This wouldn't be very tubey (read: gritty). It would be for a round glassy (HIFI eeek!) sort of tone.

Awww thanks bud!

Hey Mikey I'm kinda curious how many shows have you guys played where you didn't throw the breakers? I've seen you guys like 5 or 6 times and every single freaking time you guys blew atleast one, wait except maybe at So Addictive I can't remember if you guys did that there or not.

na, it only happened about 5 times. once or twice at so addictive, once at the firehouse (although before i did the mod to my VR my amp cut out, not the power) once at the mexican restaurant with billows, and once at mojo 13 in delaware.

stuipd crappy power.

Yeah that turntable was my dads from the 70s/80s. It works but needs a separate pre-amp methinks. I know embarrassingly little about home stereo stuff, but Dank knows EVERYTHING and I just need a good day to bring him down to fix me up.

Hey I have what I think is a hi-fi preamp from radio schack. it's just a little box, red/wire in red/white out and a little circuit with a 9v battery. Got it at Goodwill by the Pound (Best place ever!).

I'll take a picture of it tomorrow, and if you need one (and it'll work) I'll ship it for the price of shipping to you. It's about the size of 3/4 pack of cigs me thinks.

Hey Corey. You know how you were trying to figure out preamp junk? Why not grab a Behringer BDI21 (they only cost $30 new) to play around with to see what's the best way to go? Then, you can get the preamp pedal of your dreams...

Worst case scenario you have a cheap, backup pre/DI. or you could return it or flip it for most of your money back. Or go used and don't lose a dime. Just a thought so you aren't throwing hundreds of dollars at something that you may not like.

I used to have a BDDI for a long time, but I got rid of it. Not because it didn't sound good, it just didn't fit with what I need anymore. I have a plain DI and can also plug directly into my interface for recording, not to mention DI out from my MB800. It doesn't work out as a live pedal, because it doesn't have an effects loop for time and modulation based effects for running into a power amp and I don't like the way it sounds in-line with an amp. Great pedal, I would give it an endorsement any day of the week, just doesn't work with my specific requirements anymore.

So I'm talking to Nick about making me a pedal based preamp with an fx loop. So I can run that at the end of my board, straight into a power amp. Dirt pedals in front, time and modulation effects in the loop. Running delay, reverb and phase pedals in-line to my amps now is sounding like crap. I want to be able to have "my sound" dialed in and ready to plug into a power amp or run to a DI for FOH or recording. I still have the MB800 and the YBA-1 if I want a basic bright GK tone or mild breakup tube amp with no effects. This is basically just nailing down my pedalboard rig, so I have something versatile and consistent through a multitude of gigs. I just wrapped up the folk punk/roots rock thing I was doing most of the last year and someone asked me to help start up a new grindcore band, so it's good timing to get everything squared away with this idea.

so only the shows that i saw you guys at hahahaha well except the mojo 13 show. Wait i thought i happened at fat tuesday's as well, you know the show where i was asked by the owner to basically turn my amp off.....

Also Ancient might get a kick out of this. Totally blasting Corn on Macabre into work this morning

Whoa, blast from the past. I listen to a lot of stuff that was put out on Magic Bullet records.

So, a few days later and I'm still not feeling anything for this green Ric. This is the first time in a couple of years that I've bought a bass that wasn't at least 25 years old. Maybe I just don't like new basses =P It's 10 years old but pretty mint. I just like the blue one a lot more.

That`s a bummer. I`m sure if you`ll make your money back if you decide to sell it.
A Serbian Film
Enter the Void

Are the two craziest movies I've seen recently. I'm sure there were more. But those stand out.

Where are you guys watching A Serbian Film? I read an article saying that a bunch of stores/online sites won`t carry it. I plan on watching Enter the Void on Netflix.

Also worth mentioning, I built my AR from parts ordered online from various USA manufacturers for about $800 all said and done. It uses higher quality components than an $800 off-the-shelf DPMS or Bushmaster (in my opinion.) I'd never even shot an AR before assembling one. Thats not the smartest way to do it, and I was alittle nervous pulling the trigger for the first time, but its run about 750 rounds now without a failure.

A while back I had a bug up my butt to get a AR-15. For some reason I bought a stainless steal Mini-14 with a Harris bi-pod,20 round mag and a 9x power scope(pack deal at the store). It`s a dependable gun but lacks a certain amount of "fun".

Does anyone here play a thunderbird? Never liked the sound or the thin neck.

I have a Epi Thunderbird in Silverburst. I really like mine. I had planned on making it a "fenderbird" but I never got around to buying a fender neck.....at least not yet.

Happy Birthday Blender!:hyper::hyper:

although i love sunn, that smells like f.uckin bulls.hit

If it smells like BS...

And since I mentioned a movie, no one responded, and then 10 pages later everyone is talking about movies, Moonrise Kingdom was really good!

I'm going to see Looper tonight. Lots of movies out that I want to see, but I'll probably wait til most of them are available digitally. End of Watch, Dredd 3D, The Master, Lawless, etc.

Another weird but awesome movie is Troll Hunter and it is on Netflix. All subtitles as the movie is in Finnish, but it is sweet.

Here's a little one off song I did a few years ago, just a 4003 into a BDDI, into the board of my old recording rig. I just jammed out with a drummer, then a friend overdubbed guitar later. Not much to it, but I thought of it when Joe mentioned the bass driver DI thing.

I really wanna get an Epi Thunderbird and use it as a standard tuning bass.

I've got one of these I use as my back-up/roundwound bass in my cover band. It's exactly what everyone says about it. Personally, I think the marked increase in the quality of Squier's VM line makes the Epi Thunderbirds less attractive from a value perspective, but I really like the body shape. The neck dive is stupid though. I also really dislike the plastic bridge and strap buttons. Once I get a few other projects out of the way, I'll probably end up using it as a project bass to replace a bunch of stuff on. Maybe give it the Squierbird treatment. Great growly tones though, even with the stock cheapo-pickups.

It definitely makes me more interested in the real deal, or maybe a Mike Lull T4 if I ever have that kind of cash around for a single bass.
