The Combo Club

An electric kettle is civilized.

We used a stovetop kettle we had from when we were first married for 40+ years, until it developed a leak at the base. That's when we bought the electric, which we love. (The stovetop is now in the grandkids' kitchen toys box.) We didn't even have a microwave until we'd been married 8.5 years, and by then friends from Scotland had showed us how to make tea properly.

Your friends from Scotland didn't mention Barry's Tea, is my wager.

Makes sense, because the Peavey is being *used* as a head despite *existing* as a combo.

modded with a speaker output jack socket, used with the 12" stock build in unit disconnected and instead hooked up to a 400W 4Ohm SWR Triad

Modded to and used as a head.

True dat, a guitar combo actually used for bass (as a head), similar to iago's Showman analogy. Just nobody mentioned changing speakers back then. So, can @NoiseNinja re-submit and say it can be retrofitted with bass speakers (whether he actually does it, or not) in order to be accepted?

iagtrplyr = Iowa guitar player

Dear harp:

It's not totally unpronounceable. It stands for Iowa Guitar Player, but I call him Iago [ee ah' go].

I'm sure something can be worked out. Iago will contact you about membership number. Glad to have you with us. Here's your membership comm badge. It works just like you'd expect, and it provides access to all The Combo Clubhouse goodies.

Welcome aboard, Harpo!

Without the Iowa connection the avatar name reads I A Guitar Player

Which strikes me funny the same way as I eated a apple. Fun to do in the same vein - shake your head no when you say the word "yes" or nod your head yes when you say the word "no".

It's past midnight here and I'm already in bed. I'll try to remember uploading a pic of my rig in the morning. If I don't, you can assume I chickened out.

What do I incur by revealing that "iagtrplyr" means "Iowa guitar player"?

Well my darling wife was busy today doing the jibjabs...she even made you a Mike Tyson body with a Mike Iowa Guitar Player head loll..Presenting..THE COMBODALES

JibJab

Does this refer to the code in the FL's name, which no one has ever figured out?:cautious:

Yes, but this is a secret, he may be revisiting his earlier transgression...:speechless:

I can't imagine what code you're referring to.

If I remember correctly, NN had added a jack to bypass the internal speakers, and the combo could still be used as a guitar combo. I remember being one of the few to support his membership for this reason. The Combo Club decided otherwise.

I am still an advocate of accepting any kind of combo, having started with the Peavey KB100 (keyboard combo amp) myself due to lack of budget.

My Pignose 7-100 guitar amp has served as an amp for my acoustic bass to make me audible versus an acoustic guitar. For that reason I would be accepted in the club with this guitar combo amp, but if someone applied with the same amp it is not accepted because it is not a bass amp or is not used as one. Where do you draw the line?

Uh, ... ... um, . . . . Yeah, sure. Uh, ... Raise your right hand and repeat after me:

I, (state your TB username), do hereby solemnly swear that I will uphold, defend and advocate the dignity, integrity and facility of combos, and our Fearless Leader, everywhere, unless in the service of the "greater good*", and to joyfully, and with exuberance, play my bass(es) thru combos as long as we both shall live. Amen!

*Such as elementary education, and other noble causes as may be encountered. i.e. See "He Blinded Them With Science" under the What Makes Our Leader So Fearless section of the Combo Club Wiki.
.
My final argument in the whole guitar-combo discourse and then I'll shut up about it:
The credo for the Combo Club calls for: "I will uphold, defend and advocate the dignity, integrity and facility of combos,.... "
Here it is not specified to Bass combos, so any kind of combo will be defended by our members.:hyper:

Agreed. Plus it’s talk bass so it’s highly unlikely the people who only play the “other stringed instrument that shall not be named” would show up here.

furthermore our own Carole Kaye supposedly loved the play bass through a guitar combo.
I can also say from experience that a 12 string acoustic sounds amazing through an Ampeg BA-115 combo.

You supported accepting a guitar combo because it remained a guitar combo?!? Hmmm, ... sorry, but I don't follow that thinkology, swinky.

Truly a dizzying intellect! But, I don't agree. :meh:

However, I do agree on the utility of that li'l Pignose amp! I have one from the '70s that I keep hoping to get fixed someday. Do the modern ones work on 6-8 AA batteries, too? :woot:

Well, I seem to be the only one willing to draw the line at combo amps intended (designed, manufactured, marketed & sold) to be used for bass guitars. Seems to me that anything else just gets off into the weeds of interpretation and/or conditional situations. :rollno:

Oh God no! No no no no no no! Johnny, are you a hired gun from another world sent here to disrupt the Combo Club? We've been through the Battle of the B-15, and it was a bloody affair. I eventually had to capitulate and agree that the B15 is not a combo because it not being in a single chassis. Slap some Eminence bass speakers in that 'Peg of yours and, if it's a yes win, I'll get you your number on Monday. Great pic of your "other" combo!

Not so hasty, Fearless Leader! Methinks I see a clean compromise of the current controversy without creating recall of a previous guitar combo rejection. :woot:

The current guitar combo presenter also has presented an Ampeg B-15, which is The Only non-single-chassis amp to be granted special unique historical exception for Combo Club purposes! Even the failed recall of that original ruling upheld this exception! ;)

The owner of the guitar combo can, of course, be inducted into the Combo Club for his special Ampeg B-15, as others have been. And we no longer need to debate the bass-ness of guitar combos.

I call upon all Comboites to rally round this solutiin to our civil discourse. :)
