    how does it sound when it works? if its distorting very early i'd take it to a tech sounds like somethings gone very wrong with the drive section of the amp or the power transformer

    contour boosts the bass and highs i've found normally so as said its a mid cut presence is normally when you take the output signal and feed it back into the power amp stage which increases distortion + high end the aural thing sounds like a sweepable band pass

    haha must be i've heard bands i thought were **** then seen live by mistake and been blown away, sometimes recording just don't convey the bands sound at all!

    you'd be wrong ;< the input buffer on any circuit can have a huge affect on the tone!

    If you guys could spec your own preamp, what would you want?

    why PTP? it doesn't affect the sound just makes the amp easier to service and is VERY impractical with solid state equipment. i'd want a all valve pre with a input and master volumes a baxandall tone stack, with mid range cut/boost and a valve driven DI / effects loop.

    i've never heard ANY digital stuff that i've thought sounded good i'd rather go straight into the desk than use digital modelling stuff. People have got very good at copying the svt sound but not all valve amps sounds like svts.

    i would only go for these if you have a bass with a huge output, since tonebenders and fuzz faces can get extremely aggresive if you don't overload the first stage

    i HATE working on pcbs. i don't see what you mean about the vox ac30 the wiring looked fairly neat on the ones i've seen. point to point is just generally easier to service and tweak with than PCBs

    digging your tunes but you should definatly teach your drummer to play with a click the one that the drummer starts is painful to listen to. in response to the OP though i'm of the philosiphy that more is more and more is better. Also sell the svt and get a matamp or hiwatt

    no its a tonebender is a fuzz face with a buffer stage infront of it to drive it that bit harder. The big muff circuit is fairly different tonebenders sound GREAT with passive bass and active if you can get some kind of buffered attentuation infront of them.

    aye replace all the electrolytics and check all the resistors to make sure there atleast 10 - 20% of their original spec!

    english MUFF'n ;< it's not really based on a marshall at all, its just 4 generic gain stages cascading into each other with a 3 band tone stack stuck on the end

    try turning the bass down as it draws alot of current and makes the amp distort earlier. if you want alot of low end get alot more power and headroom.

    a LMII isn't going to sound like a 300watt tube amp unfortunatly i'm guessing you want a big sound and i'd recomend sticking with a valve amp but looking after it a bit better
