You're right, the 4-94 and 44-94 are the same bass. In the Dan Lakin "era" of the company, it was called the 4-94, but since the Pirrucello brothers took over they changed the name to the 44-94 for the sake of uniformity with all the other bass models, bar the Decade, Hollowbody, and Darryl...

I don't think anyone needs the amount of power an M9 has (without wanting to ruin hearing in the process, haha) but IMO, if you were gonna make the move to an M6/9 I would go for the M9, as I would rather have the options there and not use them, than be stuck one day... I just managed to...

If it helps, I run my 55-02 through a Mesa M6 (powering a pair of Berg AE210s) and I love it, the voicing control is actually usable, though I generally run it all pretty flat. I can only imagine the M9 would be more impressive, do to the Graphic EQ amongst other things.

I believe the Skyline AJs have the same Bart preamp as the -01s which might be why there is no active/passive switch... Just thinking out loud :)

My new Berg rig, these were the last 2 AE210s for sale in Australia, so it makes me like it just that little bit more :p Can't wait to try it out with the band :D

I would guess that it was designed to have a "60s tone", it has the 60s spacing, as it was modelled after Joe Osbourne's 60s jazz. Or is that all stuff you already know... :)

The pups in the Skyline AJ are the same Hansons that go into the US versions, just FYI :) depends how much you love Nordies and/or dislike the Hansons

I mostly understood that :p I have one more question (for now), will having the bass in passive mode draw less current (or power, whichever is technically correct) than having the bass set "flat" in active mode? I ask because I've had my 55-02 for well over a year and I've only had to change...

So it will draw from the battery if it's left in passive mode with the cable in? :confused: This is mind-bottling... :p

In contrast to what everyone else says, the answer is yes. This is because pulling the volume knob up completely bypasses the preamp. However, on a xx-01, this won't work as pulling the volume knob bypasses the EQ section only. I've tested this on my 55-02 on at least 2 seperate occasions...

Since JP took over from Dan, Lakland have offered several LE runs of Skylines, so I see no reason as to why they won't keep doing it as they appear to be selling well. Disclaimer: I'm not a guru as such... :p

All Skyline DJs have Blocks and Binding, but it was a good idea in theory :)

As far as Chrome covers go, for me it's on a case by case (or bass by bass) basis, and there's something about it that just doesn't sit right with me in this particular scenario. But, it's your choice and rock whatever you choose with maximum power! :p
