Anyone think of just selling everything?

I recently sold 9 basses and one six string guitar all to the same buyer. I'm seriously downsizing as my wife and I are headed into retirement next year. I figured I'd keep my Warwicks and 72' P, maybe one more, everything else is going. I'm not sure I should even keep these as we'll be living...

Old fenders that changed color thread.

Two Fender Coronado guitars, one year apart. The '67 six string stayed in it's case most of its life and still looks fresh. The '66 bass I've used for years in smoke filled bar rooms and halls.

Anyone for hollow-bodies and similar basses?

All are German Warwick's. In the back are two Star Bass II's, one fretted, one fretless. Foreground is a Jonas Hellborg Signature.

Your precious instruments - to sell or pass them down?

My wife laughs and says she's going to bury me with at least one of them. In reality I'm the recipient of several family heirlooms, some valuable - some not valuable other than from a historical perspective. The reason I say this is that I was trusted to pass these to future generations by the...

    Reverb.com vs. ebay?

I've bought and sold about 200 instruments, mostly acoustic guitars and electric bass guitars, over the years. Most of the outgoing sales have been personal transactions but many of the purchases have been via eBay or browsing the web of dealers sites. From a purchasers view eBay has your back...

Buzzard's Bass - DO NOT to business with him!!!

Rather than going through the BBB process write a review at ConsumerAffairs.com This will come up near the top of any future customers Google search wanting to learn about his business.

    Glenn Cornick RIP

A sad day indeed. I grew up listening to Tull and pulling apart his lines and timing. Glenn's timing inspired me to keep playing in my early years. Any time I got bored with bass I'd listen to a track and say to myself - That's how it's done.

    Felt Picks

I've used felt pics for over 30 years, when needed. Normally I play finger style with a floating thumb but if any particular song has extended fast tempo I'll cheat and use felt. Years ago the best out there were the larger green felt pics made by American Felt & Filter in Newburgh, NY. They...

    1964 Ampeg B15 Questions

I'd start with a used Radial or Countryman DI and let the FOH handle it. That amp is killer on tone but weak on volume for bigger rooms. I've got a 67 and use it for certain gigs but it has limits. Most today are used for recording or studio work. If you can't put yourself through the house...

TB'ers. what guitars do you like?

Depending on the song I use either a Gibson 335 or a Fender Strat with Lace Sensor & TBX controls. For acoustic gigs it's a Martin 000-28 or a Collings OM-42, both Brazilian rosewood. I've been lucky to have both 30 years of session work and gigs plus a decent regular job. Most of my extra cash...

What happens if you leave your active bass plugged in?

Unless the Dingwall has a switch to disengage the load the battery will drain. At the same time I believe the Bat-O-Meter is designed as a go/no go device to signal end if life. It isn't designed for super accurate readings and it's +/- range will be rather wide but within levels of what you're...

Where to get a shipping box for a bass?

If you're shipping multiple shipments a year it's almost better ordering them from ULine.com. When you ship in a reused box UPS will only rate the box at 70% of its original weight capacity. If something happens and an insurance claim is filed that is the first thing they attack to avoid paying...

    Interesting headstock logo ideas

Two builders that do inlay work, although differently, are Memphis Guitar Spa, in Tenn and Stephen Ziegenfuss in Mich. The guitar Spa cuts and inlays manually where Stephen cnc's the channel. Try giving each a call for ideas and pricing.

    ----

That's a tough question. Most everyone would rather play locally just because its less hassle at the end of the night. If you're not being compensated to travel then you're simply on a mission for exposure. Your personal and group's motives are going to determine much of where you'll play. I'm...

Strings, their guage and effecting relief. Trussrod maxed, still have relief.

This is your best solution. By putting a washer or two in it will increase the truss rod travel and let you remove the relief. I've used these on both newer and older necks. http://angela.com/fenderflatbrasswashers1dozen.aspx

    Music Stores in NYC?

Check out Rudy's, Rivington, 30th Street and Ludlow for certain. I'm doing this quickly and I'm sure I've missed a few. There has been a lot of consolidation over the years. A web search usually brings up Manny's. They got bought out and are now part of Sam Ash. The Sam Ash in LA is actually a...

    NBD – Ziegenfuss Single cut

    NBD – Ziegenfuss Single cut

My hat’s off to this young builder who has such an attention to detail yet doesn't lose focus on the overall goal. Bravo! Stephen has built a stunningly beautiful 4 string single cut @ 8 lbs. He’s a member here and his builds are very visually and sonically sound, versatile and he takes no...

Fender contemplating the elimination of its dealer network

Evolution, not revolution. Fender has a fairly savvy marketing group. If there are going to be changes my guess is that the 50 or so invited distributors will remain as such. They're probably too important to their bottom line. Limiting distribution is another way of gaining the respect and...

Grady, great choice! The best thing about the radius is you'll adapt quickly and then flatter boards will seem odd and difficult to play well. You'll be asking yourself why others aren't like it.

Bad GAS after purchasing new bass?

I guess I'm doomed. A few weeks ago I got my hands on a Hellborg Signature which is now my most expensive bass purchase. You'd thing that would cure things for a while. I can't put it down but just saw a good price on a Normandy Chrome Archtop bass and I'm ready to press "go". I'm doomed.

Fender finally dropping silly MSRP (list) pricing?

An MSRP is actually required by the government. If the new slang is another word for the same thing - it's just that - another wording. MSRP's we developed as a max allowable price that can be charged for a product. It doesn't matter if it's guitars or automobiles. It's intent is to prevent...

That Didn't Last Long - Stu Hamm goes to Warwick

I think that's great for both Stu and for Warwick. Artists go where they can benefit - both financially and for additional exposure. Stu's getting some additional exposure with this years Warwick Bass Camp and I bet he's delighted to be there. I usually steer away from endorsed basses but I...
