I recently aquired a 1990 MM SR5, and in parallel mode it sounds great like it should, but in series & single coil, it gets a "single coil" type hum. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Is it a wiring issue?

If you're alright with the ergonomics of the ASAT, I'd recommend it.

For rock, reggae, or old school soul (Motown, Stax, etc.), I definitely prefer passive. For more modern funk/R&B, gospel, or for fretless, I like active.

I usually prefer the look of darker woods, but lately I've been more into maple fingerboards, because they're easier to see under certain stage lights, and they get slightly better upper midrange attack IMHO.

I tried out the 5 string at Bass NW today, and I loved it, although I might miss having the Series/Parallel switch. I think it will be a hit with people who prefer the more common blend and boost/cut knobs. I may have to get one!

My G&L's have the K switch, and can nail the P & J tones, but only a Stingray sounds like a Stingray.

I don't have much experience with the Audere, but I have the Steve Bailey system in my custom built 5 string fretless, and I love it! The 3 band EQ is voiced well for fretless. It also has a contour switch with 2 trim pots in the contol cavity.

I've never liked side jacks, because they get in the way when you put the bass on a stand. Also, since I'm such a G&L fanatic, the front jack mounted on the metal plate is much more durable than the side barrell jack.

I've owned lots of Fenders, but since I play mostly 5 string these days, and I'm not impressed with Fender 5's, I have to go with Sadowsky.

I got my first 5 string in early '94, when I had been playing about 7 years. At the time, I had great chops, but my timing needed improvement, so I got a 5 string with a wide neck to slow me down, so I would focus on rhythm more. It worked.

I useed to do everything on my cars-in college I majored in automotive & minored in music! Now, more than 20 years later, I don't mess with my cars anymore (too technical!), but I hope to get a classic car in the future.

There are 10 other people in my band + the sound guy, so nothing but but the pleasure of sharing the stage with me!:)

Before looking at the pics, I was going to vote for the covers, 'cause I like the way they look on Jazz & P basses, but I have to say, this bass looks cleaner without the covers.
