i think you're definitely on the right track. personally, i'd for for a preamp/di first and then offset that with some compression, i really don't like the idea of having a compressor shape my tone in any way. i'd have a look at some of the more popular preamps like the aguilar tone hammer, mxr...

set and forget compression is the way to go imo. while i haven't tried either of these compressors (but do love carrots) i'd go for the dbx if only based on sir bongo's reviews.

so here's the new board complete with the b7k and the team tesla. it sounds absolutely amazing, i am really happy with it. hopefully there won't be too many more changes for a while but knowing you guys and this forum... anything is possible. i'm using a voltage doubler to give the empress...
