Keyboard Player Is a Piano Player

Just ask him to make some space for you in the low end. This is pretty regular communication between bandmates. Things can/should be negotiated. Just be kind and cool about it. Should be alright

    4x12 or 6x10 cab

Get another 15". 2 15's can get crazy loud. I can easily compete with half stacks.

Where do you pluck the strings and why?

All over depending on what I'm going for at that moment. I find plucking location as or more versatile and useful than a tone knob. So, I move around a lot during a song

Post an unpopular (bass-related) opinion -- No arguing!

I'd rather have the Japanese knock-off/counterfeit/etc 9 times out of 10

Anyone playing bass clean with no effects?

I don't use effects or pedals of any kind but, nothing about my tone is "clean" by any means

    Totally fake band touring Europe...

Yep. Once saw a "make-up + wardrobe" credit on a poster for one such band that I shared a bill with. Won't say who. Really nice people but definitely very manufactured band. WHAT a strange credit to put on a TOUR poster. They didn't even wear make-up on stage. Nor did they wear costumes. So They...

    Lightweight Peavey T-40? Nothing's unpossible!

what I really don't get is why they would drill through the pickguard too? How much can the little bits of plastic weigh?

    Bohemian Rhapsody-- yes or no?

I haven't seen it so I really have no idea but I will say that their complaint wasn't with how much attention it paid to Brian May but instead with how it cast him in an overly positive light. This is from friends how are VERY familiar with Queen's history so they were automatically going to be...

    Bohemian Rhapsody-- yes or no?

Haven't heard good things from my friends and peers. May was given exec. Producer control and many complained that the movie spends a great deal of time trying to make him look very good (despite the reality of his actions-drug use, etc). I'll probably check it out eventually, though cuz it's...

OH man I totally forgot about getting a number! I'd love one too, whenever that opportunity comes around
  18. HawldieMPB

    Why

TLDR: just because something is designed to sounds a certain way doesn't mean it's 100% what one wants
  19. HawldieMPB

    Why

Because the pieces of an instrument are numerous and all aspects are at play to create the sound/feel/etc. Each manufacturer offers a limited number of options. So in the pursuit of something different people may swap out bits. This especially makes sense if you like the FEEL of an instrument...

Looking for suggestions for another bass

Yamaha and Ibanez are the first two makers that come to mind for me. However I must also defend my Squier CV 60's J and say it has a very fast and thing neck IMHO etc

Black Sheep on the Gig Lineup

Totally, it's really hard to pin down ones own genre. I think you are totally right and you'll be just fine.
  23. HawldieMPB

    Bandmates and your basses

It's all very fluid. Depending what guitar or amp the guitarist(s) there are better and worse bass choices and vice versa

Black Sheep on the Gig Lineup

Also keep in mind that that is a WAY WORSE gig for the comedian. God opening for bands is horrible. So at least you aren't that person.

Black Sheep on the Gig Lineup

Not sure if I would consider consider Tame Impala mellow Indie. Those first two or three albums are cranked tubes and real rock n roll. Maybe you mean the newest album? Anyway, I don't have a good sense of your sound. But either way I say who cares? Just do you and do you the best you can. I've...

Minimal pedal setup for extreme metal bassist

I had an ODB-3 and it was the worst pedal. I couldn't make it sound good. And no matter how you set it disappears in a mix. Spend all your money one really good drive. darkglass seems to be the go to in this category

Is switching fingers on a note considered bad technique?

It's better to plan ahead and already be on the right finger. That's really great technique. But, sometimes that doesn't work out and if you have the dexterity and wherewithal to set yourself up for the your next move by switching fingers, then I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of...

    The Acoustic Club

Love my 320 and 106. Ungodly loud and overdrives so beautifully. Such a growling overdrive and HUGE sounding. While still being incredibly punchy and articulate
  35. HawldieMPB

    Tube Amps. Worth it?

It all depends on what "grabs" you. Acoustic makes (made) great amps that are solid state and famous for their overdrive tone. Same with Sunn. So it just depends

    Tube Amps. Worth it?

I agree, otherwise Id take a Marantz 2500 all day

    Favorite Speaker Size?

Currently I have a 2x15 that I like more than any 10" cab I've used. Haven't used many 12" with bass but I like the 2x15" more than those too.
