Music Man StingRay: Block v. Dot Inlays

(Click each image to view full size fretboard.) Which looks better on an ebony fretboard (even though one block fretboard pictured is not ebony) and why? Secondary question: Why do the Music Man block inlays look so different from traditional Fender or Gibson block inlays? Is there a term for...

    Inlay designs

I ran across an old parlor guitar that had cool inlays... made me wonder what else you guys have used/tried/seen. Figured it would be cool to see different ideas than the standard dots. Yerby guitars on Reverb usually has some interesting stuff too. Oddly enough... this particular model seems...

lines fading away on my old fretless.

I recently got an old Yamaha BB350 fretless and is a very nice bass the only down side is like I said on the title, the lines are disappearing and I'm guessing is going to be hard to see on dark stage. Do you folks have any advice? Thanks!!

what’s your jazz bass inlay preference?

you have the dots, or you have the blocks and binding. we all know which is which. hopefully, lol. i’m personally a blocks person, something looks very exciting and “deluxe” about a jazz bass with binding and blocks.

Ebony block inlays in maple fretboard - is the density difference a problem?

Okay more specifically... Not block inlays but the ones that just go all the way across the fret. Like a shallow dado (not totally set on ebony but considering it - I'd like to use wood as opposed to plastic composites or whatever). I'm just wondering if the difference in the densities of the...

    Abalone ovals for Ibanez bass?

Hey all! Doing a fretless conversion on an older Roadstar II and thought it might look nice with oval inlays like some of the higher-end SR series. Would anyone have advice on sizing / sources? There’s a few people selling sets on eBay but thought I’d ask before diving in. Thanks!

    Fretless Inlays

I just bought a "buzzing" 6 string fretless bass for a hell of a deal. It was set up well and plays mostly well except the 7th "fret" I felt the the neck to find out that the Inlay at that location isn't flat. How can I fix this sand? Or fill and sand or something else

Warmoth neck with Moonglow side dots or Luminlay

I just put a roasted maple Warmoth neck with black dots on my bass. I played the other night in a dark room and couldn't see the dots at all. Does anyone inlay bass bodies? Any pics out there? I'm looking for ideas. Just bought a walnut neck with a zebrawood fretboard. I’m thinking of getting a Tbird, but I want to put elephant inlays on the neck. Is this a sin?

I know, I’m a weird person. Laugh at me all you want. I’m just wondering if this is a “sin” (obviously not in a religious sense) in the eyes of Tbird lovers. I don’t want to deface the TBird, just add my own touches.

    Fret Marker Inlays

This may be the wrong place for this, but it is a general question concerning bass guitars. I was once told by someone that marking the first fret with anything is redundant as it...

Cleaning wedge fretboard with flame maple inlays

i picked up a used warrior signature 5 today. It has a wedge fretboard with flame maple block inlays. Looks gorgeous, but definitely needs to be cleaned. I’ve done some research with wire wheels and toothbrushes but is there any way I can clean this fretboard without ruining the inlays?
