VT Bass Deluxe + Pwr Amp as your rig?

I used a Sansamp Bass DI (the programmable one) with a power amp for awhile and it all worked out perfectly. I eventually switched to an RBI because it has the mid control. Otherwise it worked really well.

    Ported 810 cab vs. sealed

Damn!! Along with fearful and phasing and vertical vs horizontal 2 vs 4 vs 8 and Neo, tube vs SS etc, etc, I now have to worry about ported vs sealed? I think I will start playing oboe.

    Can't believe it's been 21 years!

I took 3 of my teenage sons to see SRV live. Two of my sons were big EVH metal fans. I remember they were kind of scoffing that this guy was a blues player and couldn't hold a candle to EVH. As soon as he started to play my sons sat up in their seats and did not utter another word until we...

United States of America v. Ebony Wood in Various Forms

Enviro-fascism at it's most sordid. Is environmentalism going to be the interface between a corrupt, tyrannical government and the citizen? If "they" come to my house to take away my rosewood fretboard they will be looking down the barrel of an AK47. The Lacy act should be reviewed by SCOTUS...

Well... I guess I'm calling it quits.

I agree with this. My wife (at the time) said I needed counseling. So SHE set up a session with a family psych. and we brought all the kids along too. She said her piece and I said mine (rather sheepishly as I remember) and he questioned the kids. Then he had everybody leave but me and he...

Well... I guess I'm calling it quits.

Now that you mention it,sir, yes it does feel good!! I think I will take my wife out this weekend for dinner and a movie. No gig.

Well... I guess I'm calling it quits.

What the OP is dealing with in his wife is called "co-dependency". That's the psych. term for his wife's problem. It is not just the music/band problem. It goes much farther than that. I would venture to guess that all of her time is her time and all of his time is hers too. If he has to work an...

Well... I guess I'm calling it quits.

I was married to a woman like this for 20 years. It was a continuous fight between us for many years. In the end she won the battle but lost the war. When the kids grew up I left. I , then, pro-actively looked for a woman who would understand and be supportive of me and my passion to play...

    Nevada bassist club

Yeah, I know that bit of history. There was a little club in Silver City that was a jumpin' place during that time. The building is still there. Big Brother and Janice played there and at the Red Dog in VC back then. There was another band ( name escapes me) well known at the time that some of...

    Nevada bassist club

I lived in the Reno/Carson City area for a very long time and I miss the desert and Nevada very much. Virginia City, on and off, has had a great music scene. I remember playing at the Red Dog with bands playing up and down the main st. and it was like a big party with people dancing in the...

    Mickey & The Soul Generation

Thanks for the tip. Man, these guys bring up visions of "Superfly" and "Soul Train" and 'fro's and polyester bell-bottoms. Very cool old school funk vibe.

Thanks Basspro. I am honored and #21 I am. I do vaguely remember the name Dean Brownell.

    Nevada bassist club

Dave and Gary have been my friends for a long time. I had more fun around those two guys than anyone should be allowed to in any one lifetime. My name is Jon Boone. They will know me if you mention my name. Anyway nice to meet you Danny.

    Nevada bassist club

I played bass around Reno, Carson City, Virginia City for about 26 years. I have been living in Oregon for about 10 years now but my musical heart lives in Nevada still. Dave Edwards and Gary Setzer are close friends of mine. My son Scott Terry plays git for the "Boogie Daddy's". I subbed on...

Quitting the day before a show

As someone else said, if you have paying gigs coming up you can find a new drummer easy! So tell him to be there or be gone. If the other members object then threaten to bail yourself. This problem, probably, won't go away because the drummer has an axe to grind with you for whatever reason...

Words I never want to hear in a song ever again

I agree with you for the most part but the human voice has always been used in music. Is bad lyrics a real reason to stop lyrical performance in music? After all "singing" can be one of the most beautiful parts of music. It tells the story and instantly puts a face on the composition.

I think all lyrics can seem inane but what would we do without them?

    i hate supplied backlines

I am with the others that keep a Sansamp DI in there bag. It can fix any crapola backline amp. I always bring it to jam sessions so I don't have to worry about what quality of equipment is on stage. Also, I don't have to mess up the host bassists EQ which always bothers me.

    Shooting out a couple Fenders...

This tune is so soothing that it would make a pride of hungry lions roll over and show their soft parts. Derek has a heart full of golden soul and Oteil just blow me away and on a P-bass at that. What a voice Susan T. has!!!! This was the best part of the Crossroads 2010 concert. The new...

    Jack Bruce

As you can see from the posts, Jack Bruce inspired many of us. I am one of them. JackBruce, Tommy Shannon and the bassist for The Butterfield Blues Band (his name escapes me) were my early on hero's. I saw Cream live in '68 (?) and I bought my first bass that year. The guy knocked my socks off...

how to convince 2 band members in a 3 piece band that they have a not so good idea

Hey, a good name "Self-Evident". Sorry, man, but band names are one of the hardest parts about forming a band. I bet I have suggested 2 million names in 40+ years of playing. Nobody liked any of them. Go figure. Let somebody else do it and just roll with it. Pretty soon you will be in a...

    Moses Necks vs. Status Necks

You may certainly be right about that. If I have mis-stated I apologize. I have no personal experience with the Zon neck. Steve Mosher of Moses-Graphite mentioned that Zon made a "good product" and I may have mis-interpreted that the manufacturing process was similar.

    Moses Necks vs. Status Necks

I have built and/or played basses with Moses-Graphite, Modulus and Status. In all respects I rate them as follows: 1. Status- The best of the 3 mentioned. Easier to install (neck screws only). Uses a graphite mesh. Will significantly change tone for the better. The overall tone was so good it...

I'm 64. "How old are you?" is my first question for obvious reasons.

    Basses that disappointed you...

Carvin SB 4000. Beautiful bass but I could not get any usable tone from it at all. Disappointing.

Do you own the best bass you've ever played?

YES , My Modulus Q5. It is the best bass on the planet! If you don't like that, we can visit the parking lot!

    Low-cost DIY practice/coffeehouse tweeterless 110 [long]

I did try it without the "block". A bit "farty" off the B string but not much and it seemed to get more focused after I "blocked" it. I'm going to build another one so I can have a "micro/mini me stack". I kind of missed a tweeter at first but now I don't. Sounds great without one. Yeah...

Do you ever just sell off everything?

Everything I own is expendable EXCEPT my Modulus Q5. At any given moment everything else could end up on E-Bay or CL.

    Low-cost DIY practice/coffeehouse tweeterless 110 [long]

Thanks Duke!! Here is a picture of my micro/mini me. I built it just like you described. Like everybody else I find that it is "surprisingly loud". I will build another one shortly. Great fun and all of my "big" stuff is in the garage waiting for the next gig. Makes my wife really happy.(LOL...)

    Security

Einstein's quote is a lie! Einstein was a pacifist and a socialist. He would have rolled over like a puppy dog. You missed the point entirely. All I did was lift up my shirt and they left quickly. The point being that criminals are cowards. Somewhere in the 90th percentile "brandishing"...

    Security

It is amazing how great a weapon a bass guitar is. Security? I am licensed to carry concealed and I usually carry a Kel-tec 9mm pistol on me or at least close by.. I keep a police sap in my gig bag. I was once scoped out with a mild threat after a gig in the parking lot by 3 guys whom I...
