This is how I pretty much play for songs that i'm playing close to the neck for deep tones.

    Closet Queens. Why?

Many keep "garage queen" automobiles in their garages/barns for 30-50 years just to go out and look them over, even they are intended to be driven. I think it has a little to do with hoarder mentality mixed with a deep love for the 'art' they own.

    Vodka - what's your pleasure?

I drink Vodka almost exclusively when indulging. Here in Canada, the tax on liquors is ridiculous and so I stay away from the Ciroc, Belvedere and Grey Goose spirits which all have a syrupy taste to me and are priced like fine Whiskeys. I'm a fan of the traditional Vodkas. Stoli, Smirnoff...

    How to enjoy playing again?

Great suggestions so far. For me personally: When I got more serious about playing, and when I'm not playing with the dad/garage/basement band, I loaded up as many songs as I could that I liked or knew and played along with them until I learned the basslines and timing for those songs...

    Is your band still rehearsing?

We are a trio of my father, his buddy (both 70+ yrs old) and me (43) so in the interest of keeping my father and his buddy around to play on in the future, I won't be responsible for dragging in a virus that could be the end of them.

    Is this a good find?

I have the same bass, but the P version, a PB-551 in the same colour. It's what's referred to as a contemporary/boxer series. Mine is an A series serial number 1985-1986. The pickups, neck and light weight are all winners in my book. I got lucky finding mine, they are getting more rare and...

How many amps do you guys own?

    1) Ampeg PF-500 with PF-210HE for play out and home use 2) Ampeg BA-112 V2 for playing with the band at our weekly sessions and smaller venues They both weigh about the same, but have similar sound wherever I play.

How did you start playing bass

Started on the Cello in grade 5 (1986) and learned the Bass clef. Played in school string bands for 4 years until grade 9 and left it when high school started. Late 80s early 90s, all my friends and classmates were big into 'non-rock' music such as rap/hip hop, house, electro and such and I was...

Do your parents Come to your shows?

I'm in my dad's band with his 60ish year old buds, so he's seen the few gigs we've done. lol! Mom passed a couple years ago, but she was always subjected to the boys making noise down in the basement. She co-wrote a few originals we do.

What are you reading Chapter 4

The Time Machine - H.G. Wells I had read almost all of Jules Verne's classics this year alone and seem to be stuck in a Steampunk era from mid 1850's to early 1900's

Do you use skin care products?

Use the wifes Oil of Olay face cream with SPF 15 included and been using it for almost 10years each morning. It seems to stop the aging process, at least on my face, especially when I look at my peers of the same age. Un-manly? Sure, but who could even tell? Plus, I have the added bonus of...

    Acoustic bass strings

If the bass has a pick-up, and you intend to plug in and use it, you can use any bass strings. I use Half rounds on my AEB as I wanted the bright, but not the finger noise.

    Takamine eg512c or Ibanez aeb10e ???

I have the Ibanez. The only beef I have with it is that it is very large and awkward front to back so it is hard to get your arm around it and into a comfortable playing position..at least sitting down. Standing there are no issues. You will have to adjust your playng style no matter which you...

Unknown Fender bass from Fender website

Oh for sure, wonder why they still have it on their website then if they were discontinued 10+ years ago? Either way, even if I could find one used, I dont think I could afford one, considering how scarce and revered they seem to be.

Unknown Fender bass from Fender website

Hi all, I was looking at colours on the Fender website and came across a bass I had not seen before. It looks like a Blacktop series, but when I looked at the models offered, I could not find it. Any idea as to what kind this is and where it is available? I really liked the pickguard and...

How much difference does a cable make?

I had bought some cheap $12 cables as I need some longer than the one I currently had and thought a cable was a cable. My existing one was a Rodam pro series cable that I had paid about $30 for and the new ones I picked up were no name ones. With the cheap cables, I was getting a lot of hum and...
