2 screws loose when putting neck on

Respectfully - your information is incorrect on BOTH threaded inserts and larger screw size and can A) Be detrimental to the instrument B) Depending on the instrument, result in SIGNIFICANT devaluation.

Fender Precision from 60s and 70s: years to avoid?

Ive seen good basses and bass basses in every year, Buy the bass, not the year. ALSO - know the diff between a bad bass vs. a bass that needs love. Ive bought MANY a bad bass, changed the strings and did a proper set up and level and the bass was great... BTW - Whats your budget (in USD)...

Help Identify the Warehouse Bass Find

Heres what you have - Its a generic house brand Japanese bass. You'd see these in lower end mom and pops, Montgomery Ward, Sears, etc. You'll see these badged as Kingston, Kent, etc. BUT the bridge is a Fender Japan unit. The tuners, I cant tell from pics maybe Mustang units...

2 screws loose when putting neck on

Few things - DO NOT and i REPEAT do not use threaded inserts. The tension needed will pull the inset right out of the neck. Glue, you don t need it. And as stated dont glue the neck to the body, better, put the glue bottle down and step away from the neck pocket..

Curiosity Question for you young guys under 20

Just to let you know where I came from... I was a URB player in the Jr High band. When I got to HS, I was introduced to a Musicmaster Bass. I IMMEDIATELY ran to Music City and bought an Aria Pbass (nat/maple) 32in scale and an Ampeg B25. This was 1976. I started a band called "Illusion"...

    Bernard Edwards In Action!

Jerry has been to my home many times and I had the pleasure of watching him form 2 feet away. I couldnt even attempt to play his warm up exercises.. This is a great story... A few years back, Jerry did a clinic in my booth at the Philly Guitar Show. Some guy walks up to Jerry and goes, "You...

    '78 Fender P Bass

Your SN would be on the face of the headstock.. What do you mean you removed the fretboard? Fender was not in flux in regards to consistant instruments. Theyre all the same...

    Help with a '94 Fender P Bass

I think its funky... Wrong tuners (Theyre late 70s), Wrong neck plate for a 57ri, wrong guard for a 57 RI... It doesnt look Japan because the decal under the paint is missing.. IF this had a SN it should have been on the back of the head or the plate was changed. BUT the US build for a 57ri...

    D. Lakin - first batch of basses!

Thanks Stu - I've been a used/vintage bass retailer for close to 20 years. Bottom line is we cannot compete wit the big box stores. There retail is our wholesale. Forget about minimums, we cant - IMHO, theres a massive act of collusion between major mfgs and big box to squeeze the small guy...

    Rust on Pickguard

Few things * Its an old bass, its called patina.. * As stated above but if you get a new guard, screw the old one to a board * DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT use an acid laced product. Not good advice guys... You risk deforming the plastic and weakening the small side of the plastic near the screws...

    FrettedLess bass...

When I wrote for Premier Guitar, I did a review on this bass. Itll still google up. As a journalist, I needed to keep a very open mind... I found the bass "interesting". Just as a side bar - John Brown is one of the best bass luthiers in the US..

    Help with a '94 Fender P Bass

Few things - I maybe mistaken but 94 is too early for Mexico. A US bass would have the SN on the neck plate. No SN plate = suspicious in the fact that A) is it a mishmash bass or B) theres a reason plates go awol. As a dealer, if we know this is an AMerican bass with an altered/missing SN...

    D. Lakin - first batch of basses!

Ned - I agree with you on many points, especially the GnL. As dealers, at the end of the day we will sell a 10:1 ratio of Fender to ???.. Its just how it is.. I dont have either product line or a comp product line so I have no skin in the game. This is just friendly discussion on...

    Thoughts on defretting a bass?

Few things.. * Why not an EUB? * Why not a born fretless rather than defretting * A fretless has its own personality but by no means will it sound like an URB * Keep in mind you need to have perfect intonation and pulling frets does not guarentee your fingering will be precise.. Just food for...

    Customizing your low-end bass

Few things... Regarding a cheaper bass * Changing strings IS NOT a mod * Modding the shi* out of a bass to make it work for you is throwing good money after bad - its just the wrong bass for you * There are some AMAZING upgrades you can do on the cheap.. ie: A Japan or Mexi Fender - change the...

    D. Lakin - first batch of basses!

Hey Fuzzy - Your correct on all counts with the exception of 1 caveat... The dealers that I know that carried Lakland were not too happy at the end and some still aren't... The quote I heard about the new basses are theyre nothing special... That said, Dan has always been a "good guy" in the...

    D. Lakin - first batch of basses!

Few things - Just because you make a product - this does not entitle you to make a living... The world is full of people who cant and dont. With that said.. As a retailer, we'll walk right past this at NAMM. Its not a TB thing, or a Kebo thing.. Its a dollars and sence thing.... Will they...

Bizarre things people say during practices

At a gig not all that long ago.. My singer falls off the stage (about 2 feet up), gets back on the stage and in the middle of the song answers her phone. She asks to cut the set short - SO SHE CAN FUGGIN PUKE her brains out. Keep in mind we're only at the first set.. In between sets, she...
