When does a bass upgrade translate to a performance upgrade?

Changes in ergonomic factors like scale length, string spacing, radius, etc. could all result in something being easier for you to play and thus "increase performance". But it is probably a good idea to play as many as you can to get an idea of what parameters in those areas work well for you...

    The term ’vintage’?

I can't tell if the original poster is objecting to the fact that Fender offers guitars the purport to be reissues of classics or if he just objects to the naming/branding of such? Either way I don't think I can get on board with the critique.

Greenboy Designs Official Club - Part 3: Loud, Light and Low!

Is this for getting to the gig or for some really over the top car audio reinforcement?

Why is playing with a pick so frowned upon?

I am much more likely to look down on a player who refuses to put in time learning more than one technique and disparages those they don't handle. Pick playing is my weakest technique but I enjoy the sound and have nothing but respect for those who are masters of it. Horses for courses.

Be wary of this ebay seller...

If this is a $1k bass, why weren't opportunistic buyers coming out of the woodwork to reap that 100% profit on the flip? If it is worth what FHM says, easy money right? It seems to me that the market considers this to be a roughly $460-610 bass.

Be wary of this ebay seller...

Just because you can get away with something immoral does not make it moral. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with warning the public. In the process we learned about several TB members to be wary of. Thanks OP.

Man I bet that is one heavy beast for load in/out.

I have to post this. eBay seller that insults you...

I think the OP's strategy was just a bit off. There may be circumstances where a low opening offer makes strategic sense. But if you are trying to persuade the seller to change course and part out, I would think you need to put out a number that gets him thinking that is a tempting option...

CITES - What every bass player should know

And what would the numbers be if the question instead was phrased "should people be free to carry the remains of endangered species across the US boarder"? Maybe include a picture of a dead polar bear cub at the top of the page to ensure the response is just as influenced with bias as your version.

Fender - a new company model that would work

You have to remember that the vast bulk of the market is lower end sales to first time beginners. Sure, some of those folks may shop the eBay. But most are going to wind up with a new squier/fender destined to spend the next thirty years in the attic of the kid's parents. It is a constantly...

Squirrel bodies? Is this a bass question or a taxidermy question?

Fender - a new company model that would work

Exactly. In the online sales paradigm, the instrument business has evolved into, all these companies really bring to the table is warehouse fulfillment and web development. Why put up with their crap and give up that margin?

Fender - a new company model that would work

I don't think the variations and options are an issue at all. Precisely the opposite. Fender sees consumers moving to the big online web dealers in droves. Why are consumers buying there? Because those big online stores stock every one of those model variations, in every trim level and in...

    Avatar or Greenboy?

With a dave green cab you are paying less for brand name than about any other cab out there: nothing. Especially the fearfuls. There is essentially zero part of the cost associated with marketing, brand, etc. In fact you can paint any old name on there you want. Mine is unmarked. The high...

Perhaps a dual mode option like the Fender high mass bridge? You would have to check the spacing but then the holes wouldn't look useless.

CITES - What every bass player should know

What is the alternative? Often the source countries of endangered species do not have the resources to prevent the harvesting. The only real hope is to try and tackle the international transport and limit the market. Not traveling or shipping questionable materials across borders is certainly...

    I don't "get" Eric Clapton

I think he is a hell of a player but not terribly creative. Going out as a solo artist was a waste of his talent IMHO. He needed to stay in bands with other top notch players with creative input and songwriting to keep pushing his playing into interesting material. But so much of his solo...

Jazz Shielding Pictorial (Big Images Warning)

Help! So I attempted to shield my AmDeluxe J and seem to have realized the worst case scenario: yes the buzz is now worse. The bass was already wired with ground lugs in both cavities connected to the jack so I didn't touch any wiring, just unscrewed the lugs and tightened them back down after...

Warwick is releasing a Bootsy Collins Signature bass!

I would think half the fun of owning it would be showing up at inappropriate genre auditions with it. A big purple star bass could create instant comedy in so many different circles.

    Thoughts on Gibson Thunderbird

I gas for a Tbird from time to time. One thing I don't get is that whenever I see them offered new it seems like they are kitted out with modern looking plastic PUPs and black satin hardware. I would think half the appeal of these would be the massive 60's vibe so where is the new stock...

Did Fender fix the hum issue on the new Am Dlx Jazzes?

What bass was the bassist playing in the halftime show?

Personally I would much rather watch a live performance warts and all any day over watching someone pretend to play. If someone flubs a part, the sound isn't quite right, and the staging isn't as spectacular that still beats the heck out of watching someone pretend. But I get that I am not...
