Now I have heard it all...

I auditioned for a praise and worship band last weekend. I was told by the worship leader that i was the the best one to audition. But that my bass was ungodly.I auditioned with my epiphone thunderbird because it is my best bass. The worship leader told me it was "the most ungodly bass" he had even seen and cant have me playing that in front of the everyone. He asked if I had any other basses and I said I have a Ibanez GSR200, Squire p bass and a Samick Greg Bennett (jazz copy).
the pastors says" Im sorry those basses are not acceptable. for being such a good player I thought you would have much better basses than those. Im sorry but I'm going to have to find another bassist.

Ok so since when are basses ungodly? Why do people think that having nice basses means your a good player. Im a firm believer you dont have to have high end basses to have good tone?

This is why I hate some organized religions. Keep GOD; get rid of the religion or at least that church!

When I said "people like that", I was referring to people who felt the same way as that worship pastor.

Don't be in such a hurry to assume people are talking about you.

With all respect, you used plurals, not not singulars to describe the leaders actions throughout your post. Reading through a lot of the posts preceding and following your post and mine demonstrates more than a few folks painting with a mighty wide brush, so to speak. If your intent was to write about the leaders actions, you should be more careful to write what you mean.

As for what I said in my first post, I stand by what I wrote; the actions of the worship leader are not representative of Christians as a whole and shouldn't be construed as such.

Paul wrote some pretty good stuff about leaders and how they should handle themselves. Seems this gentlemen would do himself and his church some good to give 1 Timothy another read.

I still think it's kind of weird when I hear about churches hiring musicians to come in and play for them.

At my church the only people that play on stage are members of the church. Which means they've been consistently attending the church for at least 3 months and gone through the membership class. That and they need to be praying consistently and be good enough at their instrument to actually play the songs...

So far have never seen the worship pastor tell any of the musicians not to bring their own gear. In fact, it's encouraged. And I've never seen them tell anyone to bring a "better" instrument.
I agree. A church that hires musicians instead of just having volunteers from within the congregation play the music is, in my mind, a church that has far too much spare money.

The only acceptable bass would be a warrior right?
(ignore my user name)
And the dildo on the headstock.... That makes me thirsty for Brawndo. (its got electrolytes)
My real name is Not Sure.

If you audition for this sort of band, you have to expect to run into this sort of thing from time to time. Still ridiculous in my opinion, but not unexpected.

If you auditioned for some uber-metal band, and you had short hair, weren't covered in tattoos, and wore khakis and a button down, they might well have a few words. That doesn't fit with their scene.

So if you go audition for God bands, better not take your "demon creature from HELL" bass!

Hey Guys,

I auditioned for a Satanic Metal band last weekend. I was told by the coven leader that i was the the best one to audition. But that my bass was godly.I auditioned with my white Fender Jazz bass because it is my best bass. The worship leader told me it was "the most godly bass" he had even seen and cant have me playing that in front of the everyone. He asked if I had any other basses and I said I have a Ibanez GSR200, Squire p bass and a Samick Greg Bennett (jazz copy).

Mothman.

:D

This is a complete fabrication to stir up nonsense. Quit with the trolling.
Basses forum has been Lownered...Everyone should know better.
Indeed. Let me quote 5 String's post again. I'll even quote the thread he linked for the terminally lazy.;)
I have been asked to play in this contemporary worship service that my church has every month. I am thinking of using my MIM Fender P-bass. But it has a Bad-ASS II bridge on it. You can see where it says bad ass on the bridge. probably no one would notice unless they look really close but I am afraid someoen just might notice that there is a curse word on my bass and get a bit upset. I was thinking of putting a piece of black electrical tape over where it says bad ass but you know there will be that person who has to know why there is tape on my bass. So would it be appropriate just to take the bass without tape and hope no one notices?
This was 5 years ago. Remarkable, eh?

Wait...

You mean I play for free at my church and I could be getting money somewhere else???

:D

Yup - and people STILL aren't getting it that they've been trolled...

- georgestrings

Sometimes being trolled is fun. Look at all the crazy comments the OP generated. But, yeah, it's hard to believe that people are still taking this seriously. :smug:

I just looked back thru 51 threads LOWNER started all saying pretty much the same thing, he posts one time ONLY, then sits back and watches the population go to town on a totally ridiculous first post.

must be bored and likes to receive auto-generated email reminders and laughs at the reaction of the crowd because he is not getting any stage time anymore? :rollno:

Is this appropriate for church?
