    ESP bass - Which one?

I have a D-5 and I love it. The electronics give it a wide range of tones, and the bass has a good feel to it. Sustain is good, and the quality is good overall; the Merbau wood in particular seems to be pretty durable. I would buy the D-4 over a B series, but mostly because I am a fan of...

Worst bass related day of you life?

Was it a boxer's fracture? If so, I feel your pain; I broke my knuckle about a month ago, and can still barely move my right pinky. I couldn't play for almost a week after surgery, but I'm thankful that it wasn't my left hand (I'm a right handed player).

Vintage Fender experts... Your thoughts please.

+1 Being guitarded has been found not only to inflate the ego, but also the brain, causing acute attacks of stupidity and ignorance. :D

    make a headless bass

The Kramer Duke may be a good choice; Steinberger-like, but on the cheap. I've played a couple and liked them; beware though. Like a lot of 80's Kramer basses, they have aluminum necks; some like them, some don't. It never bothered me. :bassist:

    Windex?

Thanks guys! I'll just use good old elbow grease and a handkerchief, and lemon oil for the 'boards. Good thing I decided to ask first. Thanks again everyone. :D

    Windex?

Okay, I did a search and came up with no clear and concise answers. Is it okay to use windex? Normally, I use Old English, but I ran out (bass cleaning day, and I have rather a lot to clean). So, is windex okay to use on: *body *fretboard *lined fingerboards *pickguards *chrome *necks EDIT...

How many basses do you own, total?

I don't believe it's a Marquis; more of a run-of-the-mill-blatant-rip-off-era copy bass, lol. It plays alright though; Short scale (which I like in a practice bass), but the frets need dressing BAD.

How many basses do you own, total?

I have nine; most of em' are cheapies. 1. Fender Jazz (fretless) 2. ESP D-5 3. Rogue acoustic/electric 4. Harmony P-bass copy (c. 1980's) 5. Conrad hollowbody (double cutaway, c. 1970's) 6. Premier P-bass copy 7. Epiphone Thunderbird IV (Goth version) 8. Squier Bronco 9. Yamaha RBX 374...

What do you recommend to be a really good (but cheap) bass these days?

+1 I wish it were though. ;) I would personally go with an ESP (D-4 or D-5) and save some of the cash for a later date... or an amp.

Best Site for Financed Guitar Purhases?

You know, it's funny that I didn't know that..... See, I rarely go to GC; I usually keep it local. Still, you'd think I'd have known that. All I know about GC though is that every time I go in there for a standard cable, I come out with about $200.00 in stuff I don't need. GC sales reps are the...

Best Site for Financed Guitar Purhases?

But once you finance, are you able to bring the instrument home, or do you have to pay it off first? (as is the case at Rainbow Music by my house - kind of a layaway system..)

Best Site for Financed Guitar Purhases?

Hmmm... I'm thinking about just doing it. If I keep the instrument I'm buying to within the $400 range, then what's the most that they could take me for, even if they are complete shysters? I wonder - has anyone on here done this before? How did it go?

Best Site for Financed Guitar Purhases?

Hey guys... I'm sure this has been covered to death around here, but I can't find an answer using the search function. My problem is thus; I have a vacation coming up, and I'm bringing my girlfriend, so I need to as much cash as possible. However, I am currently learning to play guitar (to...

Shortscales sound thin compared to Standard scale?

I'm not much on science, but I'd have to say that the reason that your bass sounded thin was because it was outside. I played an outdoor gig a short time ago, and my ESP D-5 sounded so thin that at times I couldn't hear it (and neither could anyone else), but then the cops showed up, and...

eBay does make me giggle sometimes.

I stand corrected. However, when you consider the extremely small market for those items, and the fact that to the average Joe those items aren't worth 1/10th of what they're listed as, it is likely that you may never even sell the item.

Simple Question: should I buy a Gibson Thunderbird?

+1 -To the OP: Buy what you like; we don't need to decide for you... It's all about feel.

eBay does make me giggle sometimes.

It says right in the ad that it's been hacked off. Whoever said it is right, however; there is not enough heel to make a bolt-on. That neck is about as useless as mesh raingear.

eBay does make me giggle sometimes.

I don't know about a $20,000 change in value; I don't think I've ever seen a Gibson go for that much, unless it was previously owned by someone famous. I mean, I know a 59' is worth some greenback, but not enough to where a 59' case would make that much of a difference (maybe a $3000...

    A first 6 string bass

I myself would go for an ESP D-6... They play wonderfully; I haven't seen too many ESPs that didn't play well. In fact, none that I ever remember playing. My D-5 is excellent: Articulate highs, endless lows, and the active pups are great (not to mention that they have a very good batter life)...

    Egyptian Bass (Part 2)

You're going to re-cut the J-Bass to that body style? How then are you going to have striper woods? Or will that just be a paint job? I would just have the Jazz's fretboard inlayed with the Egyptian symbols, and then just change over to new gold hardware.... maybe even a new pickguard (I'm...

    WOW

Seems like someone trying to sell a reissue as if it were a real vintage Fender... Note that he doesn't actually say that it is a vintage Fender. Just that it's "rare". Just my opinion, but that's how it looks.

Really bad GAS going on... (70's Lawsuit Gibson content)

I have a Matsumoku lawsuit era Conrad (kind of a 335 style bass, but with "Florentine" cutaways: sharper, deeper cutaways), and it plays wonderfully. The bridge on that SG style is the same as on my bass. Chrome with a levered string mute. I got my bass free, from my old man (it was my first...

    You need to see this...

Guys, you do all know that the seller isn't really expecting 65k for this bass right? There's a high asking price so that potential bidders will "Make an Offer". That's all the seller is after. If he set the price realistically, then when someone bought it, he'd have to sell. However, by setting...
