    Oh man! My First Fender!

I remember that feeling of when I got my first Fender.:hyper: It was in 1976, brand new Jazz Bass, white with tort, maple fret board, block inlay & binding, big ashtray & hood scoop, all nice & shiny.:bassist: I will always love her.;) Enjoy your new Jazz!!

why does the room change the sound?

Call me crazy but I usually find that if I can get it to sound right on stage it sounds right "out there". Everything flat & scoop full works for me. Usually. Unless it's outside or in a barn of some sort it's pretty simple. I think sometimes we get too cerebral and carried away with EQ.

    Bass newbie at 52!

Hey Groovenut, I have the same H1 sunburst, except mines a Z8 and naked - I removed the pick guard. I love it as I'm sure you love yours. Enjoy your adventure and go deep!

Which pickguard for a white/maple 'Ray?

I like mine naked. Nothing like a naked sunburst. No pick guards. Ever. Especially oval ones.

Rosewood vs. Maple vs. Ebony? Help me choose.

To me, rosewood is warmer than maple & maple is faster than rosewood. To my bassplaying buddy, there is no difference in tone but rosewood is faster than maple. We have both been playing for 30+ years. Goes to show you that there is no accounting for personal taste in spite of all the expert...

Best Amp Head Settings for Live Sound

I use a Yorkie also, with a Hartge x cab. Everything flat & scoop maxed - unlike Nick Kay. I use the controls on my H1 Jazz to tune in. Sounds deep & rich with a nice "chunk" if you use your nails or a pick. Strings probably factor in as well, I use heavy Rotosound 77's flats.

    deeper bass sound

I'm using Rotosound Jazz Bass 77's Heavy Gauge flats on my H1 Jazz. If you want deep & full, try 'em - I love them. Awsome for blues rock.

Fastest bass buying decision you have made?

I was looking for a Badass for my Squire PJ Special, the guy in the store had no clue. I asked him to pull out a Fender catalog to show him a picture of one on a Marcus Miller or something, saw a Highway 1 Jazz sunburst, found out it had a Badass II & ordered the axe on the spot. True story.

    Help identify this bass please

"Well, for the novelty of it, I think you should keep the bass stock, or, at least as-is." I agree with Electra Player, leave it as is. It has it's own vibe going on, which is cool.

Redhead vs Metro - which 2x10 combo should I get?

I was seriously considering a Redhead & now I'm slightly disappointed. I checked out that Bass player TV Redhead link & I'm not so crazy about the tone. Sounded too tight & clinical - for my ear anyway. I suppose you could dial in a more phat & thick sound? Redhead owner comments would be...

Question for Highway 1 Jazz owners

Blues, thankfully all the rooms around here are smallish - 250 seaters max. We play just about every week end - at least 2x per month. But your right 200 watts just aint enough...I'm looking an SWR Redhead 400 watts should be perfect.
  37. B

Question for Highway 1 Jazz owners

What kind of strings do you use & what type of rig do you have? I use heavy gauge Rotosound flats thru a Yorkville 200 watt 1 x 15 combo with a Hartke 2 x 10 extension speaker. I am loving the tone but I'm thinking I need more watts for more headroom.
  38. B

I would like some opinions on my tone. Clips inside.

Too trebly in my opinion, but that could be what your after. I use heavy gauge flats on my H1 and there is no lack of sustain. Could be the Badass II has something to do with that. I couldn't be happier with the tone I get theses days - phat & biting.
  39. B

What style music do you play and what is your number 1 bass?

Blues. Highway 1 Jazz burst w/Badass, no pick guard, heavy gauge Rotosound flats. Nice.
