    Tuning up a semitone?

One of my original bands tunes 1/2 step up at the singer's request. She found the existing melodies a tad low for her voice when she joined. When I joined I just tuned one of my Dingwall basses up 1/2 step with stock strings, which does work and I'd recommend for the feeling out process...

    OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

My interest is peaked. Full tube 30W with a built-in two note Torpedo - meaning cab sim on the DI plus it can function without a cab.

What did you forget to take to the gig?

Back when I was drumming I once forgot the drum throne. Not fun playing a 3 hour set on a wooden stool. Also, I once punched large holes in my belt to use as a strap.

Try playing standing (if you're not already) and engaging your abs. The reasoning (straight from a physiotherapist specialised in rehab for musicians) is focusing on a core muscle should encourage the rest of your body to remain relaxed.

Thanks for clarifying. In my defense, my source for stating the Standards aren't compound is your website. *likeliness to place an order has just increased

    Dingwall Owners Club

The Hellboy has the compound radius - not the standard. By the way Dingwall's compound has alway seemed excessive to me (25''/7.5'' = 3.33 so the string spacing should be over 3x wider at the bridge than at the nut, which it isn't). I asked Sheldon about it during a live Q&A months ago where he...

    Dingwall Segmented-Line Fretless

I don't think it's mumbo jumbo as they discontinued full on lines a few years ago for that very reason. I've never had any issue with the lined fretless they made me, but if there's a chance of it happening and they have a fix for it why not?
  9. eloann

    Dingwall Owners Club

Surprising since compound radius allows for lower action without buzzing (radius at heel/radius at nut should yield the same as strings spacing at heel/strings spacing at nut for even action throughout). But also good to know as the lack of compound radius is one of the main reasons I haven't...

No but if you ask nicely enough they will provide some of their shells to Nordstrand, who can build most of their pickups in there

It's standard on Zs and an expensive option on Supers. I don't think it's available on ABs though you could ask.

It's much harder to keep that in check with a lot of drive. You should be muting each string at more than one point - the more contact you make the better. Rest (or "float") your right thumb on the lowest strings, use several fingers of your left hand... whatever is not actively used to play...

NBD : Aviator Guitars Bomber 4 Multiscale

While not as refined I bet it's a perfectly functional low end machine - plus if the build quality is solid, mods are a fun way to make it your own. I could see a stain on this one.

For even action across the board, the radius should flatten by the same ratio the strings spacing widens. Assuming a perfect setup it allows for lower action overall.

NBD : Aviator Guitars Bomber 4 Multiscale

The preamp I'd try would include active summing of each string's signal like on Wals, so outboard is a no-go (barring wiring each string to a pin of a MIDI connector or something exotic like that). I'd convert the toggle to an active/passive switch so I could still play if the battery ran out...

NBD : Aviator Guitars Bomber 4 Multiscale

I've been using Dingwall basses almost exclusively for quite a few years, love them. However due to the nature of their business there are things they won't do. So I asked Aviator Guitars out of the Czech Republic, who already made me a guitar a couple years ago, for quite a few features that...

I concur. I believe the SJ and SP necks are (were?) different on 4 strings but identical on 5s. Having swapped them around a few times mine drop right in each other's body's pocket. Not certain that would be possible with 4s (but I've only had an older SJ4).

While we're talking Supers, here's a pretty cool shot of my formerly fretless Super J, having swapped necks with my fretted Super P. Featuring Nordstrand Big Blades 6 (5s would have been too narrow). The bit I'm playing was overdubbed on the album. It was either tapping or a looper live.

In addition to the above, if using paint one can use masking tape on certain areas which will remain natural once said tape is removed

    Dingwall Owners Club

The reason it can't be done on ABs is the neck joins right at the neck pickup.they probably don't have a CNC model that has body wood there and/or think it would be ugly. Pretty sure they had a 2x Super J option for a year or two (which no one ever ordered). They might still do it upon request.
  25. eloann

    Dingwall Owners Club

Absolutely - I've done this a couple times (including during a studio session). With my particular pair of basses it drops straight in and barely takes 10 minutes. It may not be so with 4 string Super J & P which I believe have (or had?) different neck shapes - though they might still share the...

It's been a few weeks since I received my first order from Newtone Strings and I now feel qualified to give some feedback. I ordered them to alleviate some of the tension on my Super P's neck because one of my bands tunes half a step UP to accomodate the singer. While it's not a perfect...

I have a history of tendonitis at my left arm which took years to heal completely, and more recently shoulder/neck issues (having emptied my grandma's home by myself, moved office twice, and moved in with my girlfriend last year must not have helped) so I have to take extra care not to strain...

Having had the chance to play my new 6 string ABII a bit at home, there are a few things that surprise me: - Although the B string is noticeably harder to reach I'm not completely lost and could probably take it to tomorrow's gig if I felt brave. - The neck feels much thinner than on 4 and 5s...

Lately I've been thinking about a 6 string a lot. One of my bands has a single guitar player doing some fairly basic riffing and chording. That (and bandmates' open-mindedness) leaves me with a lot of freedom to "spice up" tracks. There's a song on which I have a polyphonic thing that sounds...

It is tough to sing while you play the bass

It's hard at first but can very much be learned. When a part gives me trouble I slow it waaay down and figure out the rhythm first without necessarily worrying about vocal technique (that sometimes mean singing an octave lower). Back in the day when it wasn't enough I used to write the bass and...

What is the most and the least (outside of nothing), that you have been paid for a gig?

Most : 300 CHF + hotel accommodation, proper food and drinks at will. I believe we could have had a ski pass as well but had to get back to civilisation. I was filling in on drums with 2 days notice. Least : doors split between bands, split between bandmates, with barely anyone showing up. I...
