Hello, I have a P Bass with 'Fender Original 62' pick-ups and I decided to swap them for Bartolini 8Ss. I noticed however that the Fender pick-ups have a whole stand-alone shield plate with foam under them already. This plate+foam seems to be too high for the Barts, which are larger pickups...

So I am pondering on experimenting with swapping out the low E string of my 4 string bass with a stainless steel roundwound, the other strings being nickel-plated roundwounds, to improve definition of the lowest string. Anyone else tried this, and did it work?

I would like to put a 4 ohm speaker (of appropriate wattage) into the cab . Will the horn's ohm rating impact the overall load on the amp? Can I can just disconnect it to eliminate worry? I would like to keep it, but ill ditch it if it will cause an issue.

This bass had EMG's on it but really didn't care for the tone, so I swapped it out for some Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and swapped the controls with the '61 Stacked Knob setup (CTS pots, Switchcraft Jack, etc.) Now she is really a screamer... Will give it another quick setup and cleaning.
